Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

   Monday, January 16th, 2011

2:30 p.m.
 
 
BREAK AND ENTER COMMERCIAL- ARRESTS    C12-9109
On January 15th, 2012 just before midnight, patrolling Division 12 uniform officers were in the area of 3000 block of Portage Avenue, when they observed the suspicious activity of two males near a construction site trailer.   
 
Upon seeing officers the suspects immediately fled to a nearby truck and placed the vehicle in reverse, striking a tree.  In attempts to evade officers the suspect vehicle then proceeded forward where it struck the marked police vehicle and came to rest.  Officers removed the two suspects from the vehicle and they were taken into custody. 
 
There were no reported injuries during the incident and only minimum damage sustained to the cruiser car. 
 
It was later determined that the construction trailer had been entered and approximately $1,000 in assorted tools removed.  Property was recovered at the scene.   
 
As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Division 12 Crime Unit two males are facing the following charges for their alleged involvement in this incident: 
 
Irvin William PASHE, 27 years of Winnipeg is facing one count of Break and Enter, commit indictable offence, drive dangerous, drive suspended and drive without insurance.
 
Clinton Paul PASHE 35 years, of Winnipeg is facing one count each of Break, Enter a place, to commit indictable offence and two counts of breach of probation.
 
Both males have been detained in custody.
 
 
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION- ARREST           C11-254016 
As previously released, on December 7th, 2011 at approximately 3:50 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service members responded to the area of the 700 block of Beverley Street for the sound of shots being fired. 
 
Upon arrival officers located an injured adult male in the rear lane suffering from gun shot wounds.  Paramedics attended and transported the male to the hospital in critical condition. 
 
On December 8th, 2011 during the late evening hours, investigators were notified that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.  The victim has been identified as Darren Paul GEORGE, 22 years of Winnipeg.  
 
As a result of the ongoing investigation by members of the Homicide Unit, two suspect males were identified and arrest warrants for the charge of 2nd Degree Murder were issued.
 
On Saturday, January 14th, 2012 at approximately 3:20 p.m., members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Swift Current roving traffic unit stopped a silver vehicle traveling west bound on the #1 Highway just east of Swift Current, Saskatchewan.  The vehicle was stopped for a registration violation under the Saskatchewan Traffic Safety Act. 
 
As a result of the vehicle stop RCMP members were able to determine that one of the passengers was 18 year old Cody Joseph KAKEEWAY from Winnipeg, Manitoba, who had an outstanding warrant for Murder.  RCMP in Swift Current advised the Winnipeg Police Service of the arrest of KAKEEWAY.  Homicide investigators from the Winnipeg Police Service are making arrangements to have KAKEEWAY returned to Winnipeg.
 
Efforts are ongoing to locate the second suspect male wanted in connection with this incident, Chance Moses GUIMOND, 19 years.

FIRE INVESTIGATION                                   C12-9178
On January 16th, 2012 at approximately 5:40 a.m. emergency services responders were dispatched to a working fire at a residence within the 100 block of Minerva Avenue. 
 
Upon arrival the residence was observed to be fully engulfed in flames.  All residents exited the home without any injuries.   Damage is estimated in excess of $400, 000.    
 
This investigation is ongoing by members of the Arson Strike Force.  A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
