Winnipeg Police Service News Release

STRONG ARM ROBBERY INVESTIGATION        C12-310
On January 1st, 2012 just after 5:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service members were dispatched a laneway between the 1st 100 block of Albert Street and the rear of a hotel within the 200 block of Notre Dame Avenue, for a report of an injured male. 
 
Upon arrival officers located the 24 year old male victim who had sustained extensive injuries to his upper body, consistent with being physically assaulted.  The victim was transported to hospital where he remained in critical condition and he was later upgraded to stable condition. 
 
The investigation has revealed that the victim was last seen in the area of a hotel within the 300 block of Smith Street at approximately 3:00 a.m. before being located by officers.   
 
At this stage in the investigation officers believe the victim was assaulted during a robbery, where his personal property was stolen.  The following are photos similar to the items that were stolen from the victim: 
 
         
 
Size: XL, Black, "Foot Locker" ¾ length jacket (minus the hood)
 
 
 
 
Black and white "Nike Air Jordan" shoes
 
 
Officers have learned that the following persons of interest were seen in the area shortly before the victim was discovered: 

1) Male, Aboriginal in appearance, mid 20s weighing approximately 300 pounds and wearing black and white clothing. 
 
2) Female, Aboriginal in appearance in her late 20s
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.  Anyone who has information regarding this incident, the suspect(s) or the stolen items is asked to contact 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
