Friday, January 6th, 2012   Kick-off for WPS Half Marathon & 2 Person Relay    WINNIPEG POLICE SERVICE 8TH ANNUAL COPS FOR CANCER HALF MARATHON On May 6, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. the Winnipeg Police Service will be hosting its 8th Annual Half Marathon in support of the Cops for Cancer program.  The run is being hosted by the Winnipeg Police Service, the Winnipeg Iron-Cops, and The Running Room.    The course will remain the same as past years in which the event starts and finishes inside the Assiniboine Park near the footbridge. The course map can be viewed by visiting www.wpshalfmarathon.ca.     The course remains open for four hours to allow all athletes whether runners, wheelchair athletes or walkers to participate.  Participants are welcome to register on-line at www.wpshalfmarathon.ca; any Running Room location/website or at the Canadian Cancer Society Office at 193 Sherbrook Street.    Registering early is recommended as a maximum of 1900 runners and 300 Two Person relay teams are accepted.  Early bird registration is $70 for the half marathon and $140.00 for the Two Person relay teams until January 31st, 2012.     Free registration is offered again this year for entries that fundraise sufficient funds by race day!   All participants receive a complimentary souvenir t-shirt with their registration; refreshments throughout the course, finisher's medal, a surprise finisher's gift and a hot pancake breakfast!   The top three male and female finishers will be announced and presented with a cash purse prize as follows:   1.      First place male and female - $1,000.00 each 2.      Second place male and female - $500.00 each 3.      Third place male and female - $250.00 each   All funds raised will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society and remains in Manitoba.  For more information on volunteering opportunities, visit our website at www.wpshalfmarathon.ca.
