Friday, January 20th, 2012 1:00 PM HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION- UPDATE C11-254016 As previously released, on December 7th, 2011 just after 3:50 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service members responded to the area of the 700 block of Beverly Street for the sound of shots being fired. A male victim was located and identified as Darren Paul GEORGE, 22 years of Winnipeg, who was transported to hospital and later succumbed to his injuries As a result of the ongoing investigation by members of the Homicide Unit, two suspect males were identified and arrest warrants for the charge of 2nd Degree Murder were issued. On Saturday, January 14th, 2012 members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Swift Current arrested Cody Joseph KAKEEWAY. As result of the continued investigation members of the Calgary Police Service arrested Chance Moses GUIMOND, 19 years, on January 19, 2012. Homicide investigators from the Winnipeg Police Service are making arrangements to have GUIMOND returned to Winnipeg. COMMERCIAL ROBBERY- ARRESTS C12-11691 On January 20th, 2012 at 3:57 am Winnipeg Police Service members responded to a convenience store within the 700 block of Mountain Ave for reports of a commercial robbery that had just occurred. Upon arrival officers learned that a male had approached two employees and demanded cash from the till. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspects fled the area and police were notified. A number of police units, including a canine team, attended the area and as a result of a track by the canine officer a male was taken into custody at a near by residence. One male, aged 21 years, has been charged with the following: - Robbery with a weapon. Members of the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (N.W.E.S.T.) are currently assisting the Major Crimes Unit with this investigation. This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. COMMERCIAL ROBBERY- ARRESTS C12-11133
Attending members met with the two victims, a 64 year old male and 63 year old female. They advised that while their vehicle was running and left unattended for a short period of time, a male suspect entered the vehicle and began revving the engine, alerting the owners. It was at this time the suspect struck the female victim as he drove off. The male victim chased after the vehicle. The female victim sustained upper and lower body injuries requiring medical assistance. The stolen vehicle which has not yet been recovered is described as: a black 2007 Nissan Altima, Manitoba plate: VAF617.
