Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION- UPDATE                            C11-254016
 
As previously released, on December 7th, 2011 just after 3:50 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service members responded to the area of the 700 block of Beverly Street for the sound of shots being fired.
 
A male victim was located and identified as Darren Paul GEORGE, 22 years of Winnipeg, who was transported to hospital and later succumbed to his injuries  
 
As a result of the ongoing investigation by members of the Homicide Unit, two suspect males were identified and arrest warrants for the charge of 2nd Degree Murder were issued.
 
On Saturday, January 14th, 2012 members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Swift Current arrested Cody Joseph KAKEEWAY.  
 
As result of the continued investigation members of the Calgary Police Service arrested Chance Moses GUIMOND, 19 years, on January 19, 2012. Homicide investigators from the Winnipeg Police Service are making arrangements to have GUIMOND returned to Winnipeg.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY-          ARRESTS                    C12-11691
 
On January 20th, 2012 at 3:57 am Winnipeg Police Service members responded to a convenience store within the 700 block of Mountain Ave for reports of a commercial robbery that had just occurred.
 
Upon arrival officers learned that a male had approached two employees and demanded cash from the till. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspects fled the area and police were notified. 
  
A number of police units, including a canine team, attended the area and as a result of a track by the canine officer a male was taken into custody at a near by residence. 
 
One male, aged 21 years, has been charged with the following: 
 
-          Robbery with a weapon. 
 
Members of the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (N.W.E.S.T.) are currently assisting the Major Crimes Unit with this investigation.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. 
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY-   ARRESTS                C12-11133
 
  • On November 15, 2011 a male forced entry into a suite in the 3000 block of Pembina Hwy causing $1100 damage to the door and door frame. Once inside the suite the male selected several electronics items and fled the location.  
  • As previously reported on January 4, 2012, at approximately 5:50 a.m., Uniform Members responded to a vehicle robbery incident in the Kildonan Meadows area of the city.  
Attending members met with the two victims, a 64 year old male and 63 year old female. They advised that while their vehicle was running and left unattended for a short period of time, a male suspect entered the vehicle and began revving the engine, alerting the owners. It was at this time the suspect struck the female victim as he drove off. The male victim chased after the vehicle.
 
The female victim sustained upper and lower body injuries requiring medical assistance.
 
The stolen vehicle which has not yet been recovered is described as: a black 2007 Nissan Altima, Manitoba plate: VAF617. 
 
  • On January 17, 2012 at 3:00 pm Winnipeg Police Service members responded to a gas bar within the 700 block of St James Street for reports of a commercial robbery that had just occurred. 
Upon arrival officers learned that a male had approached an employee and demanded cash from the till. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled the area and police were notified
 
  • On January 18, 2012 at 7:13 am Winnipeg Police Service members responded to a gas bar within the 1600 block of Ness Avenue for reports of a commercial robbery that had just occurred.
 
Upon arrival officers learned that a male had approached an employee and demanded cash from the till. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled the area and police were notified
 
  • On January 18, 2012 at 9:55 pm Winnipeg Police Service members responded to a gas bar within the 1600 block of Ness Avenue for reports of a commercial robbery that had just occurred. 
Upon arrival officers learned that two males had approached an employee and demanded cash from the till. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspects fled the area and police were notified
 
  • On January 19, 2012 at 3:45 am a male operating a Pontiac G5 was involved in a Motor Vehicle collision at the intersection of McKenzie St and Pritchard Ave. The driver of the Pontiac G5 failed to remain at the scene and fled without exchanging particulars with the other driver. 
  •  On January 19, 2012 at 6:01 am members of the Winnipeg Police Service observed the Pontiac G5 being operated in the area of Manitoba Ave and Sheppard St. Police attempted to stop the vehicle which was met with negative results and a brief pursuit ensued. The occupants of the vehicle abandoned the vehicle in the 1400 block of Magnus Ave and fled on foot. Police located (3) males hiding inside a garage in the 1400 block of Manitoba Ave.  
  • Charged in these incidents are:
