Winnipeg Police Service News Release

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON               C12-877
On January 2nd, 2011 just before 11:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service members responded to a shopping centre within the 1400 block of Portage Avenue for a report a theft incident. 
 
Upon arrival officers learned that two male security guards were attempting to apprehend a male suspect who fled the store with merchandise to an awaiting vehicle.  Once near the vehicle the suspect dispensed a chemical towards the security guards as well as produced a knife. 
 
The suspect fled the scene in a previously reported stolen vehicle.  The vehicle is described as a: 2006 Blue Chevrolet Optra, Manitoba Licence GCP 273.
 
The suspect is described as: 
 
- Male, Caucasian, approximately 26 to 30 years of age, approximately 6'0" tall with short dark hair.           
 
The security guard was transported to the hospital in stable condition for injuries to his upper body. 
 
This investigation is ongoing by members of the Division 12 Crime Unit.  Anyone who has any information regarding the whereabouts of this vehicle or the suspect(s) is asked to call 986-2839 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
