Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  Tuesday, March 29th, 2011 

 
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENT        C11-60932
On Tuesday, March 29th, 2011 at approximately 11:30 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 16 Officers observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner in the area of the 3200 block of Pembina Highway. Subsequent police checks revealed that vehicle's insurance had lapsed and a traffic stop was initiated near the intersection of Pembina Highway and Ducharme Avenue. 
 
During the traffic stop the 27 year old male driver appeared to be under the influence of an unknown drug was subsequently arrested. 
 
A search of the vehicle located a number of chemicals consistent with the production of Methamphetamine and as a result, the Winnipeg Police Clandestine Lab Unit and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Hazardous Materials Unit were called to the scene.
 
A 27 year old male of no fixed address has been arrested and will facing the following charges:
 
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking X2
  • Possessing controlled drug or substance- METHAMPHETAMINE and
  • Various Highway Traffic Act charges
 
The investigation is continuing by the Organized Crime Unit.
 
 
SUSPICIOUS MALE INCIDENTS             C11-39296
Between February 26th, 2011 and March 24th, 2011 the Winnipeg Police Service Division 13 Officers have received reports of three separate incidents involving a suspicious male. These incidents have occurred during the early morning hours, between 2:45 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.  
 
In all of the incidents, the suspect male approaches the female victims as they are entering or exiting their personal vehicles within their garages. When the victims shouted for help the suspect male fled the area immediately.   
 
There were no reported injuries during these incidents and it has still not been determined what the suspect's motive was.   
 
The suspect is described as being;

Caucasian or Aboriginal Male, approximately 20- 30 years, and approximately 5'8"- 6'0" tall, with a thin build.
 
The suspect was wearing a dark-coloured hoody with the hood up and his face covered, as well as dark coloured pants or sweats.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARREST- UPDATE              C11-58093
As previously released, on March 24th, 2011 at approximately 10:20 p.m., Uniform Members were dispatched to a care facility located in the 400 block of Edmonton Street regarding a report of an assault that had recently occurred.
 
Attending members learned that two male residents, 70 years and 87 years had been occupying an activity room within the facility, when they became involved in a confrontation. It is alleged that the 70 year old male physically assaulted the 87 year old male to the upper body causing him to fall backwards, subsequently striking his head on the floor.
 
Emergency services responded and the 87 year old male was conveyed to hospital in critical condition.  
 
On March 25th, 2011, Joseph Alfred MCLEOD, 70 years had been charged with Aggravated Assault.   
 
On Monday, March 28th, 2011, the 87 year old male victim had succumbed to his injuries. 
 
This investigation is still ongoing, along with consultation from the Crown Attorney's office.
