Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

SATURDAY, MARCH 19th, 2011  

 
MALE SHOT INVESTIGATION                              C11-53287
On Friday, March 18th, 2011 at approximately 2:15 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members were notified of a 28 year old male that had attended to a hospital in stable condition, suffering from a gun shot wound to the upper body.
 
Officers have learned that the victim was inside a vehicle in the area of Battery Street and Selkirk Avenue, when a suspect male approached the vehicle and fired one shot into the vehicle striking the victim. The suspect male then fled in an older model white car
 
The suspect male is described as; Asian in appearance, mid to late 20's.
 
Anyone with information regarding this incident or the suspect(s) is asked to contact investigators from the Major Crimes Unit at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
STABBING INVESTIGATION                             C11-53873
On Saturday, March 19th, 2011 at approximately 5:20 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members responded to the area of Portage Avenue and Sherbrook Street for a report of male that had been stabbed. 
 
Upon arrival, Officers located a 22 year male, suffering from stab wounds to his upper body. Winnipeg Paramedics attended and transported the male to the hospital in critical condition.
 
A number of police units began searching the area and located the male suspect in the area of the 300 block of McGee Street.
 
A 13 year old male youth is currently in police custody, and will be facing a charge of Aggravated Assault.
 
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit.
 
  
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY- ARREST                     C11-53856
On Saturday, March 19th, 2011 at approximately 4:30 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members attended to convenience store within the 800 block of Ellice Avenue for a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred.
 
Officers arrived and learned that a male suspect while armed with a gun, entered the store and demanded money from two male clerks, aged 19 and 39 years.
 
An undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes was obtained and the suspect fled the store shortly before officer's arrival.  Neither clerk received any injuries as a result of this incident. 
 
Within minutes, patrolling Division 11 Members attended to a residence the area of Ellice Avenue and Alverstone Street where a 14 year old male youth was arrested without incident. 
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crime Unit and at this time no charges have been laid. 
 
 
COMMERICAL ROBBERY- ARREST                    C11-52915
On March 18th, 2011 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members responded to a restaurant in the located in 300 block of McPhillips Street for a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred. 
 
A male suspect while armed with a knife, entered the restaurant, approached the male and female clerk and demanded cash. The suspect male obtained an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene.
 
Patrolling Division 13 Members located in the suspect male in the area of Magnus Avenue and Sinclair Street and arrested him without incident. 
 
Stuart Norman Paul SPENCE, 20 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Robbery with a weapon and Disguise with Intent, for his alleged involvement in this incident.   SPENCE has been detained in custody.
