Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

  
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION- ARREST   C11-52151
As previously released on March 16th, 2011 at approximately 9:10 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the rear of Portage Avenue and Vaughn Street regarding a stabbing incident.
 
It has been determined that a 19 year old male and 22 year old male victim were confronted by an armed suspect. It was at this time both victims were stabbed to the upper body.
 
Abdul Rahim Mah JEMEI 22 years was conveyed to hospital in critical condition but had succumbed to injuries. The 19 year old victim was treated and released from hospital.
 
On March 17th, 2011, a 16 year old male had been arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder. He remains in custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre. 
 
On Tuesday, March 29th, 2011, at approximately 10:00 p.m. a search warrant was executed at a residence within the 500 block of Langside Street and a 24 year male was taken into custody without incident. 
 
Ramsey SWAIN, 24 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement in this incident:
 
-          Second Degree Murder
-          Assault with a Weapon and
-          Warrant for Arrest- Witness
 
SWAIN has been detained in custody.
 
 
HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENT- UPDATE  C11-60932
As previously released, on Tuesday, March 29th, 2011 at approximately 11:30 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 16 Officers observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner in the area of the 3200 block of Pembina Highway.  Subsequent police checks revealed that vehicle's insurance had lapsed and a traffic stop was initiated near the intersection of Pembina Highway and Ducharme Avenue. 
 
During the traffic stop the 27 year old male driver appeared to be under the influence of an unknown drug was subsequently arrested. 
 
A search of the vehicle located a number of chemicals consistent with the production of Methamphetamine and as a result, the Winnipeg Police Clandestine Lab Unit and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Hazardous Materials Unit were called to the scene.
 
Brendan Kyle SHEPERT, 27 years has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement:
 
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking X2
  • Possessing controlled drug or substance- METHAMPHETAMINE
  • Production of controlled substance
  • Transport dangerous goods in a means of containment that is not secured
  • Highway Traffic Act charges and
  • An outstanding warrant for failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking
SHEPERT has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
