GROW OPERATION ARREST C11-57801
As a result of an ongoing investigation, on March 24, 2011 at approximately 5:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service Drug Unit with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search Warrant at a residence on Mount Auburn Bay.
 
As a result, officers located a grow operation within the residence consisting of the following:
 
·        570 marihuana plants – estimated street value of $638,400.000
·        Grow operation equipment – valued at $12,000.00
·        100 grams of packaged cannabis marihuana – valued at $1000.00
 
A lone occupant was located within the residence and subsequently arrested. A 48 year old male is facing the following charges: Production of Cannabis Marihuana, Possess For The Purpose Of Trafficking Cannabis Marihuana and Theft of Telecommunications.
 
The accused was released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARREST C11-58093
On March 24, 2011 at approximately 10:20 p.m., uniform members were dispatched to a care facility located in the 400 block of Edmonton Street regarding a report of an assault that had recently occurred.
 
Attending members learned that two male residents, 70 years and 87 years had been occupying an activity room within the facility, when they became involved in a confrontation. It is alleged that the 70 year old male physically assaulted the 87 year old male to the upper body causing him to fall backwards, subsequently striking his head on the floor.
 
Emergency services responded and the 87 year old male was conveyed to hospital in critical condition due to serious upper body injuries.
 
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit became involved and continued to investigate.
 
On March 25, 2011, the 70 year old male was taken into police custody.
 
Joseph Alfred MCLEOD, 70 years has been charged with Aggravated Assault.
 
He has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
