Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  SATURDAY, MARCH 12th, 2011

SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULTS- ARREST   C11-42894 & C11-46815
As previously released, on Wednesday, March 9th, 2011 shortly after 4:00 a.m., a 23 year old female was walking northbound on Juno Street from Bannatyne Avenue, when an unknown male came up from behind her and pulled her into the rear lane parking lot. The suspect male proceeded to strike her about her upper body and then proceeded to commit a serious sexual assault. 
 
The Winnipeg Police Service Sex Crimes Unit entered into an investigation and a suspect male was identified. 
 
On Friday, March 11th, 2011 at approximately 3:30 p.m. the suspect male was arrested in the area of the 200 block of Dufferin Avenue. 
 
After further investigation, this same suspect is alleged to be responsible for an incident that occurred on March 3rd, 2011.  As previously released, a 27 year old female victim was walking in the area of Victor Street and Ellice Avenue at approximately 2:30 a.m. when she was approached by an unknown male suspect.  The male physically assaulted and committed a serious sexual assault against the victim who after a period of time managed to break free and was assisted by a passerby.
 
A 19 year old male, who was detained in custody, has been charged with two counts of Sexual Assault.   
 
 
ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON- ARRESTS           C11-48850
On Saturday, March 12th, 2011 shortly after midnight, Uniform Members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a convenience store within the 2000 block of Pembina Highway for a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred. 
 
Officers learned that two suspect males had entered the store, began causing a disturbance and they were asked to leave.  The suspects then attended behind the counter and physically assaulted the clerk.  As they were leaving the store, two display cases and the front exterior window were broken with a tool that they had taken from behind the counter.  Damage to the store is estimated at $2,600.
 
Upon arrival, officers were directed to another nearby convenience store where the two suspect males were arrested without incident. 
 
The 58 year old male store clerk was transported to the hospital in stable condition for upper body injuries that he had sustained. 
  
Kevin EASON, 19 years and Brendin Michael LENZ, 21 years, both from Winnipeg have been charged with the following offences for their alleged involvement in this incident;
 
-          Assault Cause Bodily Harm, Utter Threats, Mischief Under $5,000 and Theft Under $5,000
 
Both have been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
 
SERIOUS ASSAULT INVESTIGATION                      C11-48948
On Saturday, March 12th, 2011 at approximately 2:40 a.m. numerous Winnipeg Police Service units responded to the area of Wellington Avenue and Maryland Street for a report of an injured male lying on the boulevard.
 
Upon arrival, officers located a 25 year old male, who appeared to have been assaulted.  Winnipeg Paramedics transported the male to the hospital in critical condition, where he remains at this time.
 
This investigation is continuing.
