Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4th, 2010  

 
FESTIVE CHECK STOP PROGRAM- DAY ONE RESULTS
The Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit has provided the results from the first day of the Festive Check Stop Program. 
 
In addition to the Impaired Driving Arrests listed below, 8 individuals had their Driver's Licence's suspended for 24 hours under the Highway Traffic Act as a result a reading of "Warn" on an Approved Screening Device.
 
The Blood Alcohol Concentrations in the following arrests ranged from 100 mgs% to 210 mgs%.
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST             C10-275211
On Friday December 3rd, 2010, at 7:00 a.m. a male was operating a vehicle Westbound on Regent Avenue near Madeline Street at a high rate of speed.  This male attempted to pass a vehicle travelling at the speed limit by going into the Eastbound lane and subsequently struck the side of the vehicle being passed.  The male fled the scene but was located a short distance away, and was arrested by Winnipeg Police Service Members.
 
As a result of this incident a 19 year old male faces charges of Drive Impaired, Drive Over 80 mgs%, Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident, Drive without a Licence and Operate a Vehicle without Owner's Consent.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST          C10-275765
On Friday December 3rd, 2010, shortly after 10:00 p.m. a male was operating a vehicle in the area of Osborne Street and Glasgow Avenue when he was stopped by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Festive Checkstop Program.
 
As a result of this incident a 61 year old male faces charges of Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample into an Approved Screening Device.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST            C10-275872
On Saturday December 4th, 2010, shortly before 1:00 a.m. a male was operating his vehicle in the area of St Matthews Avenue and Empress Street when he was stopped by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Festive Season Checkstop Program.
 
As a result of this incident a 48 year old male faces charges of Drive Impaired and Drive Over 80 mgs%.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST           C10-275930
On Saturday December 4th, 2010, shortly after 2:00 a.m. a male was operating his vehicle Westbound on Portage Avenue near Strathcona Street in an erratic manner.  The vehicle was stopped by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Festive Season Checkstop Program.
 
As a result of this incident a 23 year old male faces charges of Drive Impaired and Drive Over 80 mgs%.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST            C10-27956
On Saturday December 4th, 2010, shortly after 2:30 a.m. a passerby observed a male passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle in the Northbound median lane of Plessis Road just North of Dugald Road.  Members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended and arrested the male.
 
As a result of this incident a 35 year old male faces charges of Drive Impaired (Care and Control) and Care and Control Over 80 mgs%.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST           C10-275958
On Saturday December 4th, 2010, shortly before 2:30 a.m. a female was operating her vehicle in the area of Kildare Avenue and Redonda Street when she collided with the rear of a stopped vehicle.  Members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended and arrested the female.
 
As a result of this incident a 19 year old female faces charges of Drive Impaired, Drive Over 80 mgs% as well as Novice Driver operate vehicle with Alcohol in their Blood.
 
The female's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST        C10-275975
On Saturday December 4th, 2010, shortly before 3:00 a.m. a male was operating his vehicle in the area of Portage Avenue and Minto Street in an erratic manner.  The vehicle was stopped by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Festive Season Checkstop Program.
 
As a result of this incident a 26 year old male faces charges of Drive Impaired and Drive Over 80 mgs%.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
