Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 8th, 2010

TRAGIC INCIDENT ON THE RIVER- UPDATE       C10-276345
On Saturday, December 4th, 2010 at approximately 3:35 p.m. Emergency Services Responders received an emergency call reporting that a person was in the Red River just south of the Disraeli Bridge. 
 
Two male children ages 6 and 10 years had entered the water. The 10 year old child had been rescued by a passer-by and a recovery search had been initiated to locate the 6 year old. 
 
Unfortunately, the Winnipeg Police Service's Underwater Search and Recovery Unit has not located the young child. 
 
After reassessing the conditions and any other possible search areas, the search was ended. 
 
This search could not have been possible without the assistance of the Manitoba Paddling Association and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.   
 
 
ARSON INVESTIGATION- ARREST                C10-276762
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY- ARREST            C10-263314
On December 5th, 2010 at approximately 3:40 a.m. Emergency Services Responders were dispatched to a residential house fire in the 100 block of Parr Street.
 
The Winnipeg Fire Department attended and successfully extinguished the fire. Damages to the building and the contents are estimated at $100,000. No one was injured during this incident.
 
The Arson Strike Force Unit initiated an investigation which had resulted in a suspect male being responsible for the starting the fire. All attempts to locate the suspect male were unsuccessful. 
 
On December 7th, 2010 at approximately 1:30 a.m., the suspect male was located and arrested within the 700 block of Stella Street on the strength of an unrelated Warrant and the Arson investigators were notified.   
 
 
During the arson investigation, it came to light this same male suspect was allegedly responsible for a robbery against a cab driver that occurred on November 16th, 2010 at approximately 11:30 p.m.
 
During this incident, a 61 year old cab driver was operating a taxi when a male suspect entered the cab in the 800 block of Main Street. Once inside the cab, the suspect male pulled out a gun, pointed it at the driver and demanded money and cigarettes. The victim handed the suspect male an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect fled from the cab. 
 
Ivan ROULETTE, 18 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:
 
-          Arson- Damage to Property
-          Breach of Probation
-          Robbery with Firearm
-          Possession of Firearm, etc, while Prohibited
 
ROULETTE has been detained in custody.
