STOLEN AUTO- ARRESTS                                                 C10-278138
On Tuesday, December 7th, 2010 at approximately 4:00 a.m. a Winnipeg Police Service patrolling Canine Unit observed a black Chevrolet pick-up truck in the area of Isabel Street and Bannatyne Avenue. Shortly after observing this vehicle, members received information that this vehicle had recently been reported stolen from the rural municipality of Tache.

At approximately 4:15 a.m. the Canine Unit spotted the vehicle in the area of McGee Street and Notre Dame Avenue. As other police units were dispatched to the area, the stolen truck was followed by the Canine Unit and was observed to travel at approximately 30 km/h, in the wrong direction on Sherbrook Street, Maryland Street and Notre Dame Avenue.

Attempts to box in the slow moving stolen truck were unsuccessful as the truck evaded this maneuver, by turning the wrong way (westbound) onto Cumberland Avenue.  Emergency equipment was activated and a brief pursuit of the suspect vehicle occurred. The truck travelled westbound in the eastbound lanes of Notre Dame Avenue, from Maryland Street and began reaching higher speeds.

As a result of the reckless driving by the suspect and a concern for the public's safety, officers discontinued the pursuit with the stolen vehicle as it continuing eastbound on Notre Dame Avenue.

The stolen truck attempted to veer back into the westbound lane of Notre Dame Avenue and upon doing so, the driver lost control of the vehicle, mounting a large snow bank and then crashing through a fence into a parking lot at Pearl Street and Notre Dame Avenue. The truck came to rest after striking a parked van at that location.

As officers pulled up the crash, three female suspects jumped out of the truck and attempted to flee the scene. The Canine officer exited his cruiser car and commanded the suspects to stop or the police dog would be sent. All suspects, immediately, complied with this officer's direction.

While officers were arrested the suspects, the stolen truck began to smoke and subsequently caught fire.   The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service attended to douse the fire and convey the suspect females to the hospital, as a precaution.

Two females, aged 13 and 14 years, of Mitchell, Manitoba will be facing charges of Possession of Goods Obtained by Crime Over $5000

A 16 year old female from Steinbach, Manitoba, will be facing the following charges:

- Theft Over $5000

POLICE OFFICERS ASSAULTED                                       C10-278005
On December 6th, 2010, at approximately 10:20 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service received a call to a residence within the 700 block of McGee Street for an intoxicated and disorderly male who was refusing to leave.

At approximately 10:25 p.m., Officers attended and met with a male who was subsequently detained under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act.
Upon being placed into the rear of the cruiser car, the suspect male began to kick at the door and as Officers attempted to restrain him, he allegedly swung his fist, grazing the chin of a 41 year old male officer. This male continued to yell threatening comments to the male officer as well as towards his 30 year old female partner.

As a result of the suspect's aggressive actions towards officers and to effectively handcuff the male and electronic control device was deployed.

Winnipeg Paramedics attended, and this suspect male continued his aggressive behaviour towards Officers as well as Paramedics during the incident, and allegedly assaulted the female officer in the lower body.

Neither officer required medical attention.
