Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  Monday, December 20th, 2010

 
 
STRONG-ARM ROBBERY C10-286143
On December 17, 2010 at approximately 7:40 p.m., Uniform members responded to a report of a male being robbed and physically assaulted in the area of the 800 block of Keewatin Street.
 
Attending members located a 49 year old male victim who was being assisted by passersby.
 
The investigation has revealed that the victim was walking to his parked vehicle when he was confronted by two males unknown to him. The suspects opened the door to their vehicle and demanded that the victim get in. After refusing, the victim was pulled into the vehicle against his will at which time he attempted to defend himself. It was at this time the suspects proceeded to seriously assault the victim to the upper body. The suspects drove the victim a short distance when he was thrown out of the vehicle. It was later discovered that several personal items belonging to the victim were stolen as a result of the incident.
 
The suspect vehicle sped off.
 
The victim was conveyed to hospital requiring medical treatment.
 
The suspects and vehicle is described as: Males, Aboriginal in appearance, in their 20's. The vehicle is described as a full size van or sport utility vehicle. The vehicle may have damage to the front driver side.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-2848 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).  
 
      
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING A PEDESTRIAN C10-287397
On December 19, 2010 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Uniform members were dispatched to the area of the 400 block of Young Street regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
 
Investigating members have since learned that a 48 year old male had temporarily stopped his vehicle in a southbound direction on Young Street between Ellice Avenue and Sargent Avenue. He had just removed his young child from the vehicle when a southbound vehicle was observed approaching his location. The approaching suspect vehicle was observed to speed up and side swiped the victim's vehicle, subsequently colliding with the victim standing nearby.
 
The suspect vehicle sped off, leaving the victim behind with several lower body injuries. The child was not injured as a result of the incident.
 
The victim was conveyed to hospital in unstable condition, later upgraded to stable condition.
 
The suspect vehicle is described as a silver sedan, possibly a 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala which will have damage to the passenger side of the vehicle.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6271 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).      
 
 
POLICE OFFICER ASSAULTED – ARREST C10-286860
On December 18, 2010 at approximately 7:20 p.m., officers came into contact with an injured male in the area of Austin Street and Euclid Avenue who required medical attention. The 38 year old male was conveyed to hospital for treatment and subsequently arrested on an outstanding warrant.
 
While in custody, the male became increasingly belligerent and aggressive toward officers. At one point, the suspect kicked a 36 year old officer to the lower body and then spit at him to the upper body.
 
The suspect continued to threaten officers while in custody. It was also determined that the suspect was not forthcoming with information regarding his true identity at the time of his arrest.
 
He is facing the following charges: Assault a Peace Officer, Utter Threats x 2 and Public Mischief.
 
He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.  
      
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER ARREST – C10-287617
On December 19, 2010, shortly after 7:00 p.m., a 37 yr old male was observed operating a vehicle in the area of Balmoral Street and Notre Dame Avenue. The male admitted to consuming alcohol to members of the Winnipeg Police Service Festive Checkstop Program.
 
As a result of this incident a 37 year old male faces charges of Drive Impaired and Drive Over 80 mg/% and Drive without Licence. The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
