FESTIVE SEASON CHECKSTOP IMPAIRED DRIVING ARRESTS
 
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER ARREST – C10/280272
On Friday December 10th, 2010, shortly after 1:30 a.m., a male was operating a vehicle in the area of Arlington Street and Bannatyne Avenue when he was stopped by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Festive Checkstop Program.
 
As a result of this incident a 46 year old male faces charges of Drive Impaired and Drive Over 80 mg/%. The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER ARREST – C10/280268
On Friday December 10th, 2010, shortly after 1:30 a.m., a male was operating a vehicle in the area of Portage Avenue and Queen Street where he nearly collided with a parked vehicle. The Winnipeg Police Service Festive Season Checkstop Program responded and arrested the male.
 
As a result, the 40 year old male was charge with Drive Impaired and Driver Over 80 mg/%. The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.

FRAUD ARRESTS C10-279694
On December 9th, 2010, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Commercial Crime Unit entered into an investigation involving the theft of credit and or debit card data.
 
Payment card crimes are an ever increasing form of fraud. One form of payment card crime is the placing of a device or several devices called an overlay on an automated teller machine (ATM) for the purpose of capturing a victims debit or credit card data.
 
On December 9th, 2010, two suspects allegedly attended to an ATM in the St. Boniface area of Winnipeg for the purpose of installing overlay equipment. Members of the Winnipeg Police Service were initially notified by a member of the public as a result of the suspicious activity observed.
 
Members of the Commercial Crime Unit attended to the area and initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle and occupants believed to be involved. Officers identified two suspects and located numerous items within the vehicle which included: overlay equipment, tools, cameras, cards readers, computer and various debit cards.
 
Karla Renata MCRAE, 31 years and Zahid AZMATHULLAH, 34 years both of Ontario, have been charged with the following offences:
 
MCRAE: Fraud Under $5000.00, Instrument for the use in forging credit cards.
 
AZMATHULLAH: Possess credit card data, Instrument for use in forging credit cards x 2, Breach Probation x 3.
 
They have been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.  
 
 
DRUG ARRESTS R10-99900
As a result of an ongoing investigation by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Drug Unit, a Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search Warrant was executed at a residence in the Maples area of the city.
 
On December 9th, 2010 members executed the warrant at a residence located in the first 100 block of Novara Drive. Officers located a fully operational marihuana grow operation within the home which consisted of the following:
 
·        801 Cannabis Marihuana plants – estimated street value of $897,000.00
·        Grow Operation equipment valued at $15,000.00
 
A 43 year old female and 48 year old male have been arrested and are facing the following charges: Production of Marihuana, Possess for the Purpose of Trafficking and Theft of Services.
 
They were released on a Promise to Appear.   
 
 
SUDDEN DEATH INVESTIGATION – UPDATE C10-279727
On December 9th, 2010 at approximately 10:20 a.m., uniform members attended to a suite located in the 400 block of Kennedy Street regarding a sudden death investigation.
 
Investigators have revealed that the deceased is a 32 year old female who resides at this location.
 
The cause of death has not yet been determined pending an autopsy scheduled for later in the day.
 
The investigation is continuing.
