Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  SATURDAY, DECEMBER 18th 2010

 FESTIVE SEASON CHECKSTOP PROGRAM
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST                 C10-286234
On December 17th, 2010, shortly after 10:00 p.m. a male was operating his vehicle in the area of Jefferson Avenue and Pipeline Road when he was stopped by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Festive Checkstop Program.
 
As a result of this incident a 55 year old male will be facing charges of Drive Impaired, Drive Over 80 mgs% and Failure to Provide a Breath Sample.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST                C10-286123
On December 17th, 2010, shortly after 7:30 p.m. a male was operating his vehicle in the area of Regent Avenue and Wayoata Street when he was involved in a motor vehicle collision.  Members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended and arrested the male.
 
As a result of this incident a 53 year old male will be facing charges of Drive Impaired and Failure to Provide Breath Sample.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST                C10-286156
On December 17th, 2010, shortly after 11:30 p.m. a male was operating his vehicle in the area of Arden Avenue and Pulberry Street when he was stopped by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Festive Checkstop Program.
 
As a result of this incident a 20 year old male will be facing charges of Drive Impaired, Drive Over 80 mgs% and Drive While Disqualified.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST                 C10-286279
On December 17th, 2010, shortly before 11:30 p.m. a male was operating a vehicle on Archibald Street when he nearly collided with an off duty Winnipeg Police Service member who was driving in his private vehicle.  The male continued to drive erratically, narrowly avoiding several collisions.  The male was followed by the off duty member to a parking lot on Dovercourt Drive, where he was subsequently arrested by on duty members.
 
As a result of this incident a 23 year old male will be facing charges of Drive Impaired and Drive Over 80 mgs%.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST                C10-286365
On December 18th, 2010, shortly after 1:00 a.m. a male was operating his vehicle in the area of Plessis Road and Pandora Avenue West when he was stopped by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Festive Checkstop Program.
 
As a result of this incident a 19 year old male will be facing charges of Drive Impaired, Drive Over 80 mgs% and Fail to Comply with Licence Restrictions- 0 Blood Alcohol Concentration.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST                 C10-286393
On December 18th, 2010, shortly after 2:00 a.m. a male was operating his vehicle in the area of Lagimodiere Boulevard and Maginot Street when he collided with a tree in the centre median.  Members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended and the male was subsequently arrested.
 
As a result of this incident a 23 year old male will be facing charges of Drive Impaired and Drive Over 80 mgs%.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
 
IMPAIRED DRIVER- ARREST                 C10-286409
On December 18th, 2010, shortly before 3:00 a.m. a male was operating his vehicle in the area of Speers Road and Betournay Street in an erratic manner when he was stopped by members of the Winnipeg Police Service Festive Checkstop Program.
 
As a result of this incident a 19 year old male will be facing charges of Drive Impaired and Drive Over 80 mgs%.
 
The male's name will be released once formal charges are laid.
 
 
 
 
Here are the results for the first half of the Winnipeg Police Service's 2010 Festive Checkstop Program:
 
- 55 Impaired Driving, Drive Over .08, or Failure to Provide a Breath Sample (Refusal) arrests.
- Of those individuals arrested; 51 were males and 4 were females.
- The average age is 34 years old.
- 77 Alcohol Screening Device readings of "Warn", resulting in a 24 hour suspension.
- There have been 1,422 vehicles stopped to date.
 
The results from last year's 2009 Winnipeg Police Service Festive Checkstop Program were:
 
- 57 Impaired Driving, Drive Over .08 or Failure to Provide a Breath Sample
- 21 Alcohol Screening Device readings of "Warn"
- 3,295 vehicle had been stopped during this program.
