Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  SUNDAY, DECEMBER 26th, 2010  

 
FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION- ARREST           C10-291445
As previously released, on Friday, December 24th, 2010 shortly after 5:40 p.m., Emergency Services Responders were dispatched to Fife Street between Mapleglen Drive and Inkster Boulevard regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.  Upon arrival a seriously injured 66 year old male pedestrian was located.  This male victim, whose identity will not be released, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and has since succumbed to his injuries. 
 
The investigation by numerous Uniform and Central Traffic Unit members has revealed that a male pedestrian had parked his vehicle in the 1300 block of Fife Street and he proceeded to cross Fife Street when he was struck by a car that had been travelling southbound on Fife Street from Mapleglen Drive.  After striking the victim, it is alleged the driver of the car reversed the vehicle and then drove around the victim, fleeing the scene.
 
A number of witnesses in the area immediately attended to the injured victim and notified police.
 
On December 25th, 2010 at approximately 2:30 p.m., acting on information provided by Division 13 Uniform Officers, Traffic Investigators located and arrested a 44 year old male at a residence near Manor House Court and Maberley Road.
 
Christopher Ronald PEEBLES, 44 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:
 
-          Criminal Negligence Cause Death
-          Fail to Remain at the Scene of Accident Cause Death
 
PEEBLES has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit and anyone who may have witnessed this collision that has not yet spoken with police is asked to call 986-6271. 
 
 
FRAUD INVESTIGATION- ARREST     C10-289708
As a result of the keen observations of bank employees the Winnipeg Police Service Commercial Crime Unit was alerted to bank accounts that were being fraudulently obtained.
 
An investigation commenced which revealed that between December 17th and December 22nd, 2010, a 26 year old male was in possession of stolen identity information which included forged Drivers Licences and Social Insurance cards.  This suspect male allegedly used this stolen identity information to open bank accounts at several banks within the City of Winnipeg.
 
On December 22nd, 2010 shortly before 3:00 p.m., Commercial Crime Unit Detectives located and arrested the 26 year old male as he exited a bank in south Winnipeg.  Numerous forged pieces of identification were seized and included information from individuals from the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Winnipeg.  At this time, it is still unknown how the identity information was stolen and/ or obtained. 
 
Drame MAHAMADOU, 26 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following:
 
- Utter Forged Document (X 4)
- Possession of Identity information (X 4)
- Personation (X 3)
- Possession of Counterfeit Mark (X 5)
- Fraud Under
- Public Mischief
 
MAHAMADOU has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
 
This investigation is still ongoing and it is anticipated that more charges may be pending.
 
 
ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON INVESTIGATION   C10-286869
On Saturday, December 18th, 2010 shortly after 7:00 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members attended to an intersection near Hespeler Avenue and Silvia Street for a report of 75 year old male victim that had been assaulted by a male suspect armed with a baseball bat. 
 
The male victim received treatment for various upper body injuries as a result of this assault. 
 
This investigation is on going by members of the Division 13 Crime Unit.  Investigators are requesting that a witness who had come to the aid of the victim immediately after the incident to contact them at 986-2848 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
