Thursday, October 6th, 2011 2011 OPERATION IMPACT CAMPAIGN The Winnipeg Police Service is pleased to be participating in "Operation Impact", a national public safety initiative endorsed by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and a collaboration of Police Agencies across Canada. The program's aim is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways. This is an achievable goal with the involvement of the driving public. Winnipeg's most recent statistics include 22 fatalities on our streets last year, a contribution to thousands of traffic victims throughout Canada annually. Driver's behaviours such as impaired driving, seatbelt use, distracted driving, and all manners of aggressive driving play a significant role in these statistics. As a result, the Winnipeg Police Service will be dedicating the weekend of October 7th to October 10th to increased enforcement in these areas. With more people travelling over the long weekend, the frequency of motor vehicle collisions increase and often includes the loss or serious injury of someone's loved one. Please drive safe.
