CELEBRATING THE JETS HOME OPENER
On October 9th, 2011, multiple events will be taking place in the downtown area in celebration of the Winnipeg Jets home opener.
 
Again, there will be a significant police presence at these events to ensure the safety of all present. Officers will be on hand to assist members of the public and will enforce any breach of Provincial or Federal statues including the Liquor Control Act.
 
Our goal is to duplicate the successful celebration held on October 6th at "The Forks" by once again ensuring that everyone in attendance has a positive experience.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT – ARREST C11-212711
On October 7th, 2011, just before midnight, Uniform members responded to a business located in the 1600 block of Main Street regarding a serious assault.
 
The investigation has revealed that a 25 year old male was walking in the parking lot of the business when he became involved in a verbal argument with a group of males. The confrontation escalated at which time the 25 year old was physically assaulted to the upper body causing him to fall to the ground. The victim was assaulted further after which time a male suspect fled the area in a vehicle.
 
The victim was conveyed to hospital in unstable condition.
 
Attending members located the suspect vehicle in the area of Rupertsland Avenue, where a 20 year old male was placed under arrest.
 
He has been charged with Aggravated Assault and detained.     
 
 
STABBING INCIDENT C11-212853
On October 8th, 2011 at approximately 3:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Keewatin Street and Burrows Avenue regarding an injured male.
 
Attending members met with the caller who indicated that the injured male was currently at a residence located in first 100 block of Dexter Street. Officers located a 33 year old male who was observed to be suffering from multiple stab wounds.
 
The victim was conveyed to hospital where he remains in unstable condition.
 
The investigation is continuing by Division 13 Detectives. No arrest(s) have been made at this time.

SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT R11-96363  
On October 7th, 2011, at approximately 8:30 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service Sex Crimes Unit were notified of a sexual assault incident which occurred earlier in the morning, involving a 23 year old female victim.
 
The investigation has revealed that at approximately 12:00 a.m., the victim was walking in the area of Ross Avenue and Princess Street when she made contact with two unknown males. The males engaged the victim in a conversation offering her alcohol.
 
After a period of time, the two suspects physically assaulted the victim at which time a serious sexual assault occurred.
 
The victim eventually broke free and fled home, notifying friends as to what had occurred. She attended to a local hospital and police were subsequently advised.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact police at 986-6245.
 
 
SERIOUS ASSAULT C11-212794
On October 8th, 2011, at approximately 1:45 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Pembina Highway and Newdale Avenue regarding several males fighting.
 
Responding members located a 19 year old male who had sustained serious upper body injuries as a result of a physical confrontation. He was conveyed to hospital where he remains in critical condition.
 
At this stage of the investigation, it appears that the victim made contact with two suspects and physically assaulted. The suspects fled the area on foot.
 
No arrests have been made at this time.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 6 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident or the identity of the suspects is asked to contact police at 986-2877 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
