ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON – ARREST C11-213332
On October 8th, 2011, at approximately 7:30 p.m., uniform members responded to the area of Ellice Avenue and Beverley Street regarding a stabbing incident.
 
Attending members discovered that a 23 year old male victim had already conveyed himself to hospital due to his injuries. He remains in hospital in stable condition.
 
The investigation has revealed that a 17 year old intoxicated male, while in possession of a knife proceeded to stab the tire of a taxi cab, causing it to lose air. A 23 year old male witness questioned the suspect's actions, at which time the 17 year old male stabbed him to the lower body. The suspect subsequently fled the area.
 
Due to the efforts of members involved and after a brief foot pursuit, the 17 year old male suspect was located and arrested in the area of the 500 block of Beverley Street.
 
The 17 year old male has been charged with: Assault with a Weapon, Mischief Under $5000.00, and Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking x 2.
 
He was detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
 
 
MISCHIEF – CAUSE DANGER TO LIFE – ARREST R11-96906
On October 8th, 2011, at approximately 10:40 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service Flight Operations Unit were on airborne patrol in the south end of the city responding to an unrelated event.
 
It was at this time that the AIR1 helicopter was struck by a directed bright light source, which filled the cockpit with white light. The intense white light struck the helicopter cabin causing a glare, creating an obvious hazard to flight.
 
The pilot was required to perform evasive manoeuvres in order to remove the helicopter from the area of the light. The helicopter was struck by the same light source on multiple occasions. 
 
Uniform members were directed to the area of Beckinsale Bay and Nova Vista Drive where they made contact with the suspect male. A 52 year old male was arrested and the light source was seized.
 
He is facing the following charge under the Canadian Aviation Regulations section – Projection of a Directed Bright Light Source at an Aircraft and (CC) Mischief - Endangering Life.
 
He was released on an Appearance Notice.
