Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  Monday, October 10th, 2011

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION- UPDATE ARREST  C11-213844
On October 9th, 2011 at approximately 1:55 p.m. emergency personnel responded to a serious motor vehicle collision in the area of Sargent Avenue and Kennedy Street. 
 
Upon arrival officers located a 36 year old male victim suffering from serious upper body injuries.  Paramedics transported the pedestrian to the hospital in critical condition where he remains at this time. 
 
At this point in the investigation officers have learned that a Hyundai Tiburon had been travelling eastbound on Sargent Avenue at a high rate of speed when it struck several parked cars in the area.  A number of individuals sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene. 
 
Roadways in the area were closed for several hours as Traffic Collision Investigators and members of the Identification Unit investigated the collision.
 
A 20 year old male from Winnipeg will be facing charges of Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm. 
 
He has been released to appear in court at a later date.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.
