HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION – CHARGES UPGRADED – C11-178995
As previously released, on Thursday, August 24th, 2011 at approximately 11:15 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service members responded to the 400 block of Dufferin Avenue for a report of a male and female that had been assaulted. 
 
Upon arrival, officers located a 48 year old male suffering from serious upper body injuries. Paramedics attended and transported the victim to the hospital in critical condition. An 18 year old female was also located with upper body injuries requiring medical treatment.   
 
The investigation has revealed that a group of people were outside a residence within the 400 block of Dufferin Avenue when two male suspects approached them. A brief verbal dispute occurred, however the suspects left the area. A short time later, the two male suspects returned now armed with a baseball bat.  It was at this time the suspects came upon a 48 year old male and 18 year old female who were unaware of the previous dispute. The suspects began assaulting the male victim to the upper body causing him to fall to the ground. The 18 year old female came to his aid at which time she was assaulted to the upper body. 
 
The female victim has since been treated and released from hospital however the male victim remained. 
 
A number of individuals were located nearby and taken into custody. 
 
As a result of the investigation, two male youths, both 15 years of age, had initially been charged with the following offences:
 
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Assault with a weapon
- Aggravated assault
 
On August 30th, 2011, the 48 year old male victim succumbed to his injuries.
 
The two male youths were arrested on August 30th, 2011 and charged with 2nd Degree Murder. They have been detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.  
 
 
 
INTERNET LURING – ARREST R11-26301
Between January and March 2011, a 45 year old male was allegedly involved in luring a 13 year old female for a sexual purpose while chatting on a social networking website.
 
The investigation has revealed that the suspect communicated with the female victim through Facebook during this time frame. At some point during this interaction, the parent of the 13 year old female discovered the inappropriate chat and subsequently notified police.
 
Members of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) entered into an investigation.
 
As a result of the ongoing investigation, a warrant was executed on August 30th, 2011 at approximately 8:00 a.m., at a residence in the North Kildonan area of the city. Evidence was seized and a male was taken into custody.
 
The 45 year old male is facing charges of: Internet luring to commit Sexual Assault and Internet luring to commit Sexual Interference.
 
He was released on a Promise to Appear.

ATTEMPT VEHICLE ROBBERY – C11-183800
On August 31st, 2011 at approximately 1:00 a.m., Uniform members responded to an attempt vehicle robbery incident in the area of the 1300 block of Beaumont Street.
 
Attending members met with a 34 year old female victim who advised that she was confronted by an unknown male while parked in her vehicle in front of her residence. The suspect knocked on her window and subsequently produced a weapon. The suspect then began threatening the victim with the weapon and demanded that she exit the vehicle. The female remained inside the vehicle and the suspect eventually fled the area on foot. No injuries occurred as a result of the incident.
 
Police were notified and the suspect was described as follows:
 
·        Caucasian
·        Male
·        5'9" tall
·        Short light brown wavy hair
·        Wearing a dark hoodie
·        In possession of a weapon
