Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

 
ARSON INVESTIGATIONS- ARREST      C11-170758
On Sunday, August 14th, 2011 shortly after midnight, Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members were dispatched the 600 block of Panet Road for a report of garbage bin that was on fire.  The fire was quickly extinguished, but did cause an estimated $1000 in damages. 
 
Upon arrival, investigating officers learned that four separate fires had just been set within this same area by a lone male suspect.  During these instances, the fires were extinguished and there were no reported injuries. 
 
Patrolling East District Uniform members located a suspect male within the immediate area and he was arrested without incident.
 
Detectives from the East District Crime Unit continued with this investigation which revealed the following garbage bin fires that had also occurred around midnight on August 14th, 2011:
 
-          1100 block of Nairn Avenue, $1000 estimated damages
-          2 separate fires within the 1600 block of Regent Avenue.  One of these fires caused an estimated $5000 in damages to an adjacent restaurant.  Although numerous patrons were within the restaurant, there were no reported injuries. 
-          1st 100 block of Clyde Road, damage estimated at $1000
 
Investigators also believe the same suspect is responsible for the following arson investigations:
 
-          June 24th, 2011 garbage bin fire at the rear of a building within the 1100 block of Narin Avenue, estimated damage $1000
-          July 3rd, 2011 detached garage at the rear of the 500 block of Herbert Avenue, estimated damage $12000
 
As a result of the efforts of both Uniform and Crime Unit members, a 16 year old male youth from Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences: 
 
Arson damage to property x 6
- Arson disregard for human life x 1
- Possession of incendiary material x 1
- Breach undertaking x 1
- As well an outstanding warrant
 
He has been remanded into custody.
 
 
 
MISSING PERSON– ERIC RYDMAN- UPDATE                    R11-68244
On Wednesday, August 10th the Winnipeg Police Service requested assistance in locating a missing 85 year old male Eric RYDMAN. 
 
During the evening hours of August 14th, 2011, RCMP located a deceased elderly male near Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan.  A vehicle belonging to RYDMAN was also located in this area.
 
Efforts are ongoing to confirm the identity of the deceased male, believed to be that of the missing person, Eric RYDMAN.  Foul play is not suspected at this time.  The investigation is continuing.
