ARSON ARREST                                                    C11-16179
Between May 1st and July 26th, 2011 numerous suspicious fires and acts of arson were reported in the Fort Rouge area of Winnipeg. These fires created a significant risk to life and property. The damage estimate for these fires is approximately $680,000.
 
Significant resources from both Winnipeg Police Service and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service were committed to combating the fires and the ensuing investigation.
 
Extensive work by the Arson Strike Force, assisted by District 6 Crime Unit, General Patrol and Cadets has resulted in the arrest yesterday of a 20 year old male from Winnipeg.
 
·        Brandon SUTYLA has been charged with:
·        Arson – Damage to Property x 18
·        Arson – Disregard to Human Life x 2
·        Possess Incendiary Device
·        Breach of Probation.
Sutyla has been detained in custody at the Provincial Remand Center
 
  
MVC INVOLVING MOTORCYLE                           C11-162504
On Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011 at approximately 12:40 p.m. Winnipeg Police and Fire Paramedics responded to a report of a serious Motor Vehicle Collision at the intersection of Lagimodiere Blvd. and Fermor Avenue.
 
A motorcycle while stopped in traffic was struck from behind by a car travelling northbound in the same lane. The driver of the motorcycle, a 50 year old male, was conveyed by ambulance to hospital in critical condition.
 
At this time the investigation is continuing by Winnipeg Police Central Traffic Unit.
  
 
ASSAULT WITH WEAPON                                   C11-163081
On Thursday, August 4th, 2011 at approximately 3:30 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service responded to a Fight call in the vicinity of Osborne Street and River Avenue.
 
An altercation between two males resulted in a 29 year old male sustaining injuries to the upper body. He was transported to hospital in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable.
 
At this time the investigation is continuing by the Major Crimes Unit. A 26 year old male is being detained as part of this investigation.
