Friday, August 5th, 2011 11:00 a.m. HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION C11-163824 On Friday, August 5th, 2011 at approximately 2:35 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members responded to the area of Stradbrook Avenue and Osborne Street for reports of a fight involving a large number of persons. Upon arrival, officers located an injured adult male. Paramedics transported this male to the hospital in critical condition where he has since succumbed to his injuries. This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. The surrounding area is expected to be closed for several hours. SERIOUS ASSAULT INVESTIGATION C11-163828 On Friday, August 5th, 2011 at approximately 2:40 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members along with emergency services responders were dispatched to the area of the 400 block of Cumberland Avenue for a report of an injured male lying on the sidewalk. Upon arrival officers located a 39 year old male who appeared to have been assaulted. Paramedics transported the male to the hospital in critical condition. At this point in the investigation it is believed that the victim was walking in the area when he was confronted by a number of suspects, and physically assaulted. The victim has been upgraded to guarded condition. This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C11-163810 On Friday, August 5th, 2011 shortly after 2:30 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members responded to the area of the 100 block of Selkirk Avenue for report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred to a taxi cab driver. Upon arrival officers met with the 43 year old male victim and learned that at approximately 2:00 a.m., the victim was operating a taxi cab when he picked up a female fare near the intersection of Provencher Boulevard and Tache Street. The female requested to be taken to a location on Selkirk Avenue. When the cab arrived on Selkirk Avenue a male suspect approached the cab and produced a knife while making demands of money from the driver. The suspect male received an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene, along with the female. The victim did not sustain any injuries during the robbery. The suspects are described as follows: Caucasian Male, 20 to 23 years of age, approximately 5'8" to 5'9", with a slim build and short hair. He was wearing a t-shirt and shorts. Caucasian Female, early 20's, approximately 5' tall, with a slim build and black shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a white sleeveless top and blue jeans This investigation is continuing by members of the Division 13 Crime Unit.
