Winnipeg Police Service News Release

FREE VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION CLINIC– RESULTS
On August 21st 2011, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. the Winnipeg police Service Central Traffic Unit, Vehicle Inspection Section along with Manitoba Public Insurance, Vehicle Standards and Inspections conducted an advertized inspection program, inviting anyone to attend with there vehicle for an inspection without concern of any repercussion. 
The day started at 10:30 a.m. when vehicles were lined up around the block and continued none stop until shortly after 5:00 p.m.  Due to the clinic's popularity, numerous vehicles had to be turned away.  
 
A total of 77 vehicles were inspected throughout the day.  Of these, 27 passed and one defect was identified on the remaining 50 vehicles, with a number having multiple defects.

FIRE INVESTIGATION                         C11-179835
On Friday, August 26th, 2011 just before 1:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service East District Members responded for a report of a garage fire within the 1st 100 block Cobourg Avenue.
 
Upon officer's arrival, fire crews were already working to extinguish the fire. Damage is estimated at $15,000.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Strike Force.  Anyone who has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6813 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8744).
