Winnipeg Police Service News Release

FIRE INVESTIGATIONS- UPDATE      C11-165551/ 165559
As previously released, on Sunday, August 7th, 2011 at approximately 3:40 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 12 Members responded to a golf course within the 2000 block of Ness Avenue for a report of a working fire. 
 
Upon arrival, officers along with members of the Winnipeg Fire Department located a number of golf carts on fire within a fenced compound.   Fire-fighters extinguished the fire which is estimated to have caused in excess of $130,000.00 in damages.
 
Then just before 4:00 a.m. officers were dispatched to the area of the 400 block of Winchester Street for a report of two separate fires, one to a garage and a second to a parked vehicle within the area.   Damage estimates to the garage is $2000 and $1000 for the vehicle. 
 
There were no reported injuries associated to these incidents.
 
Numerous units, including a canine unit, attended to the area and a number of individuals were taken into custody. 
 
Investigators have learned that an estimated 20 to 40 persons were gathered on the golf course prior to reports of the working fire at this location.  When emergency services personnel arrived on scene, this group had already fled the area. 
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Strike Force Unit and at this time there have been no charges laid.

STABBING INVESTIGATION- ARRESTS     C11-165929
On August 7th, 2011 just after 7:00 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members responded to a report of stabbing that had just occurred within the 1400 block of William Avenue. 
 
Upon arrival officers located the 25 year old victim suffering from a stab wound to his upper body. 
 
The investigation revealed that the victim had been walking in the area with another male and female when they were approached by two suspects, a male on a bicycle and a female.  The male suspect and the victim entered into verbal argument which escalated into a physical confrontation with the suspects.  During this confrontation, a knife was produced and the victim was stabbed.  Both suspects fled the immediate area and police were contacted.
 
Patrolling Tactical Support Team members located both suspects near the intersection of William Avenue and Flint Street where they were taken into custody without incident.
 
The victim was conveyed to the hospital by Paramedics in unstable condition, and he was later upgraded to stable condition. 
 
A 21 year old male and a 14 year old female are both facing charges of assault with a weapon. The 21 year old male has also been charged with breach of probation.
 
Both have been detained in custody.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERIES- ARREST        R11-75387/ C11-165711
On August 7th 2011 at approximately 12:15 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 12 members responded to a convenience store within the 900 block of Portage Avenue for a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred by a lone male armed with a knife.  
 
Patrolling members arrived quickly and arrested the suspect male nearby without incident. 
 
As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Major Crimes Unit, investigators also learned of a previous commercial robbery that occurred to a convenience store within the 1st 100 block of Osborne Street on this same date.   At approximately 6:00 a.m. a lone male suspect, while armed with a knife approached the male clerk where he demanded and received a small amount of cash. 
 
There were no injuries reported during either of these incidents.  
 
Colin Tudor O'ROURKE, 40 years, of no fixed address has been charged with two counts of Robbery with a weapon for his alleged involvement into these incidents.  He has been detained.
