WINNIPEG POLICE SERVICE 2011 ANNUAL REPORT
The Winnipeg Police Service 2011 Annual Report is now available online at:
 
This report provides a snapshot of police activities, major initiatives and crime statistics for the period of January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011.
 
Notable findings in the report are as follows:
·        14% Decrease in Overall Crimes
·        8% Decrease Violent Crimes
·        18% Decrease in Property Crimes
 
 
 
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION UPDATE              C12-143558
As previously released - On Sunday, July 22, 2012 at approximately 5:30 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service and other emergency responders, attended to the area of the 500 block of Furby Street regarding an injured adult female.
 
Police arrived and located the injured female on the ground at the location. Paramedics attended and transported the female to the hospital in life threatening condition, where she was later pronounced deceased.
 
The deceased is identified as: Cherie Anne RICHARD, 20 years old of Winnipeg.
 
The investigation revealed that the deceased and another female were in the area of the 500 block of Furby Street when they were approached by one male and two females. A verbal altercation took place, at which time the deceased was stabbed. 
 
The suspects fled the area.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477)
 
 
 
ARSON ARREST                C12-143589
On Sunday, July 22, 2012 at approximately 7:35 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of the 200 block of Chalmers Avenue regarding the report of a garage fire.
 
The fire was extinguished by Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) prior to police arriving on scene. 
 
The investigation revealed that upon WFPS arrival a male matching the description of the suspect responsible for setting the fire was observed at the scene of the fire.  
 
Police located the male suspect who was still at the scene of the fire and arrested and took him into custody.
 
Further investigation by the Arson Strike Force revealed that the male was responsible for setting the following fires dating back to April 14, 2011:
 
April 14, 2011 – Detached garage in the 500 block of Young Street - $15,000 damage
 
November 17, 2011 – Garbage Chute within an apartment complex in the 400 block of Langside Street - $5,000 damage
 
July 22, 2012 at 1:49 a.m. – Two Vehicles in the 200 block of Johnson Avenue - $13,000 damage
 
July 22, 2012 at 3:56 a.m. – Detached garage in the 300 block of William Newton Avenue - $15,000 damage
 
July 22, 2012 at 5:39 a.m. – Detached garage in the 300 block of Talbot Avenue - $500.00 damage
 
July 22, 2012 at 7:00 a.m. – Two Vehicles in the 200 block of Johnson Avenue $200.00 damage
 
Darren BITTERN 18 years old of Winnipeg has been charged with:
·        Arson Disregard for Human Life
·        Arson – Damage to Property X 6
·        Mischief Under $5000
·        Failure to Comply with Sentence
He was detained in custody.
 
 
 
INDECENT ACT –  C12-144131
On Monday, July 23 at approximately 3:00 a.m., Winnipeg Police Members while patrolling in the area of Selkirk Avenue and Sgt. Tommy Prince Street responded to the report of an indecent act.
 
An investigation revealed that a 21 year old female victim was walking at this location when a male walked towards her and indecently exposed himself while he passed her.
 
The female was not injured at a result of the incident.
 
The male is described as Caucasian, 25-30 years of age, short light coloured hair, wearing dark blue t-shirt and faded light blue jeans.
