ATTEMPTED MURDER – ARREST C12-131640
On July 7, 2012, at approximately 8:40 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the rear of the 500 block of Spence Street to check the wellbeing of a person located in a garbage bin.
 
Officers, including members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service located a male within a garbage bin suffering from multiple injuries. He is in critical condition.
 
The investigation has revealed that the 23 year old male victim was in the company of several males when an altercation occurred. The victim was assaulted and sustained serious upper body injuries. After the assault, the victim was placed in a nearby garbage collection bin. The suspects fled the area and emergency services were notified by a passerby.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit.
 
At approximately 11:30 p.m., investigators located and arrested a 17 year old male in the same area where the assault took place. He has been charged with the following offences:
 
  • Attempted Murder
  • Breach Probation
  • Warrant – Fail to report  
He has been detained.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
BREAK, ENTER – ARRESTS C12-131506
On July 7, 2012, at approximately 3:30 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 100 block of Commonwealth Path regarding a break, enter in progress.
  
The investigation has revealed that four suspects were attempting to gain entry into the residence, resulting in windows being smashed. The suspects were armed and attempted to push their way into the home, however the door was held  closed from inside by the occupants.
 
At the time of the incident there were several occupants, one of which was a 16 year old female who sustained a minor injury.
 
The suspects eventually fled the area in a vehicle which was immediately followed by Air1. Members of the WPS Canine Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of Kinver Avenue and Keewatin Street.
 
All four suspects were arrested, (two 18 year old males, two 17 year old males). Several weapons were recovered and seized by officers.   
 
The investigation continued by members of the Division 13 Crime Unit.
 
The males involved are facing numerous charges which include: Break & Enter, Posses Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Assault with a Weapon, Possess Proceeds of Crime and Possessing Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. 
 
At this stage of the investigation, it appears that all parties are known to each other and this matter is as a result of an ongoing dispute.
 
The males arrested have been released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
SHOTS C12-132076
On July 7, 2012, at approximately 9:50 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue regarding the report of shot(s) fired.
 
Minor damage was observed, however no injuries were reported.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
