ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON – ARREST C12-115756
On June 17, 2012, at approximately 3:15 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the grounds located near the 3900 block of Portage Avenue regarding a bear spray incident.
 
The investigation has revealed that a 13 year old male, along with his friends, became involved in a physical confrontation with another group of males. As a result, the 13 year old male produced a canister of bear spray and began discharging it indiscriminately in all directions. Due to his actions, several bystanders were contaminated by the spray.
 
An off-duty member observed the incident and subsequently pursued the male suspect. With the assistance of security, the male was taken in custody.
 
A search of the male revealed that he was also in possession of a loaded pellet gun.
 
The 13 year old male has been charged with the following:
 
  • Assault with a Weapon x 7
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking x 2
He was detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
 
 
ATTEMPTED MURDER – ARRESTS C12-115449
On June 17, 2012, at approximately 2:10 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Machray Avenue regarding a fight incident.
 
The investigation has revealed that several individuals were present at a drinking party, when a 21 year old male became involved in a dispute with three other males.
 
The 21 year old male was physically assaulted about the body and stabbed multiple times.
 
As a result of the incident, emergency services responded.
 
The victim sustained serious injuries. He is currently in stable condition.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Division 13 Crime Unit.
 
An 18 year old male has been charged with the following offences: Attempted Murder, Assault with a Weapon x 2, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x 3 and Assault.  
 
An 18 year old male has been charged with the following offences: Assault Cause Bodily Harm and Assault.
 
A 20 year old male is facing the following charges: Assault with a Weapon, Assault Cause bodily Harm and Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.
 
 
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION C12-114979
On June 16, 2012, at approximately 2:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 1300 block of Fife Street regarding a fight incident.
 
Responding members located a 36 year male with serious upper body injuries. He was conveyed to hospital in critical condition. On June 18, 2012, the victim succumbed to injuries sustained.
 
Investigators have determined that an argument, which escalated, had taken place involving the victim.
  
No arrest(s) have been made at this time. Interviews are ongoing.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 13 Crime Unit.
 
 
ATTEMPTED VEHICLE ROBBERY C12-115886
On June 17, 2012, at approximately 7:20 p.m., uniform patrol members responded to the 2500 block of Portage Avenue regarding an attempted vehicle robbery.
 
It has been determined that lone male suspect confronted a 66 year old male and his family in a parking lot and began demanding his car keys. The suspect motioned as if he was armed at which time the victim and his family backed away.
 
No one was injured and the suspect eventually fled empty handed. Witnesses indicated that the suspect entered a vehicle on Moray Street.
 
The suspect vehicle is described as: a white 4 door car, similar to a Honda Prelude.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, Caucasian, mid 20's, 6'00" tall, medium build, 185 lbs. and short dark hair. He was observed wearing: a blue t-shirt, and white and blue shorts.
 
The suspect was also observed with a freshly stitched cut on his forehead between his eyes.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 12 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact police at 204-986-2839 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
