STRONGARM  ROBBERY                C12-105492
On Monday, June 4, 2012 at approximately 6:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 700 block of Aikins Street for the report of a strongarm robbery.
 
The investigation revealed that an 81 year old female victim attended to this location and upon entering the front entrance was confronted by a male who was in the entrance prior to the victim's arrival. The male suspect grabbed the victim's purse causing her to fall to the ground. The suspect then fled from the area with the victim's purse.
 
The victim sustained injuries to upper body.
 
The suspect is described as a: Caucasian male, approximately 25-35 years old, 5'10" tall, slim build, short light coloured hair.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-2848 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
 
CONSTRUCTION ZONE- SPEED ENFORCEMENT
IN EFFECT
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to advise the members of the public, that as early as June 4, 2012, mobile photo enforcement may be utilized to enforce the permanently reduced speed zone in a Bishop Grandin Boulevard to Kenaston Boulevard construction zone.
 
The zone is located west of Waverley Street on westbound Bishop Grandin Boulevard to northbound Kenaston Boulevard south of McGillivray Boulevard. This zone has been signed permanently and reduced to 60 km/h for the duration of the construction.
 
Please use caution when travelling near construction zones and as always, the Winnipeg Police Service encourages all motorists to Just Slow Down.
 
 
  
STABBING INVESTIGATION - ARREST

As previously released -  On, Friday, May 18, 2012 at approximately 8:40 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service and other emergency personnel responded to the area of the 600 block of Main Street for report of a male who had been stabbed.
 
Police arrived at the location and found an adult male with injuries to his upper body consistent with being stabbed. Winnipeg Paramedics attended and transported the male to hospital in critical condition where he was later upgraded to stable.
 
The investigation revealed that the victim while at a location in the 600 block of Main Street was approached by a male and an altercation took place resulting with the victim being stabbed. The suspect fled the location at this time.
 
An investigation was headed by the Division 11 Crime Unit and as a result of the investigation a suspect was identified. 
 
On Monday, May 4, 2012 at 1:43 p.m., the following male s was located in the 300 block of Main Street, at which time he arrested and taken into custody.
 
Edward Roy SPARVIER, 49 years of Winnipeg has been charged with:
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Fail to Comply  with Condition Recognizance x 2
 
SPARVIER was detained in custody.
