SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT – ARREST C12-109247
On June 9, 2012, at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a sexual assault incident that recently occurred. The victim was waiting for police in the area of Austin Street North.
 
Attending members met with a 16 year old female victim. She related that while walking in the area of Selkirk Avenue and McGregor Street, an unknown male confronted her from behind. The suspect took hold of the victim and forced her to a residence in the area. It was at this time a serious sexual assault occurred.
 
The victim fled and police were notified.
 
The investigation continued and the suspect male was arrested at approximately 11:20 a.m., when he was located in the same area where the assault took place.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Sex Crimes Unit.
 
Raymond Edward HAMILTON, 23 years has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
 
  • Sexual Assault
  • Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
He was detained.
 
 
SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT – ARREST C12-109564
On June 9, 2012, at approximately 3:20 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of Wellington Avenue and Maryland Street regarding a sexual assault and robbery incident.
 
Officers met with a 44 year old female victim who indicated that at approximately 1:30 p.m., while walking in the area, she made contact with an unknown male.
 
The victim was lured to an outdoor storage shed where the suspect forced entry. Once inside, the suspect proceeded to make sexual advances toward the victim. While the victim attempted to flee, she was physically assaulted. It was at this time a serious sexual assault occurred.
 
A short time later, the suspect fled after robbing the victim of her property. The victim subsequently notified police.
 
Members of the Sex Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
 
On the same date, at approximately 11:30 p.m., uniform patrol members made contact with a male regarding an unrelated matter. Due to their investigative efforts, the male was identified as being a suspect in the sexual assault incident which occurred earlier in the day. He was arrested at that time and turned over to Detectives.
 
Orville William THOMPSON, 42 years has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
 
  • Sexual Assault
  • Break and Enter
  • Overcoming Resistance to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Robbery with Violence
  • Breach Probation
He was detained.  
 
 
FIRES C12-110067
On June 10, 2012, at approximately 2:30 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the 700 and 800 block of Manitoba Avenue due to multiple garage fires.
 
The fires were extinguished and damage estimates are as follows:
 
  • 700 block of Manitoba Avenue - $1000.00
  • 800 block of Manitoba Avenue – Over $30,000.00
  • 800 block of Manitoba Avenue - $2000.00
  • 800 block of Manitoba Avenue - $25,000.00
The cause of the fires is still under investigation and members of the Arson Strike Force have been notified. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to call police at 204-986-6813 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
