UPDATE - SEXUAL ASSAULTS INVESTIGATION – ARREST C12-105408
On May 31, 2012, members of the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a sexual assault involving a 15 year old female victim.
 
It was reported that at approximately 3:30 p.m., the victim was travelling on a city transit bus when an unknown male sat beside her and engaged in a conversation. During this time the suspect made inappropriate physical contact with the victim. The bus was travelling in the St. Vital area of the city when the victim exited near her home. The suspect continued to follow her, however she returned home safely.
 
Upon returning home, the victim realized that her cellular phone was missing.
 
As previously reported, on June 4, 2012, at approximately 3:50 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a sexual assault incident that occurred in the area of St. Mary's Road and Hull Avenue.
 
The investigation revealed that an 18 year old female victim was walking in the area when an unknown male approached her from behind and placed his arms around her. The male then took hold of the victim's wrist and attempted to push her while uttering threats. The victim summoned help from a passer-by at which time the suspect fled the area.
 
The victim was not physically injured as a result of the incident.
 
As previously reported, on June 4, 2012, at approximately 5:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a sexual assault incident that occurred in the area of Autumnwood Drive and Cottonwood Road.
 
The investigation revealed that a 14 year old female was in the area when an unknown male approached her and attempted to initiate a conversation. The male proceeded to touch the victim on her upper body at which time the victim was able to distance herself from the male. The victim left the area and called police.
 
The victim was not physically injured as a result of the incident.
 
On June 6, 2012, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the suspect attended to a mall in the St. Vital area when he observed and approached the original victim (May 31st incident). It was at this time the suspect advised the victim that he had her phone. He forced a conversation and continued to follow the victim. She eventually made her way home safely.
 
On June 8, 2012, at approximately 1:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 600 block of Dakota Street regarding a suspicious male. Officers located the male at which time he was placed under arrest.
 
The investigation continued by members of the East District Crime Unit.
 
A 30 year old male is facing the following charges as a result of the investigation: Sexual Assault x 3, Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Theft Under $5000.00.  
 
 
DANGEROUS OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE – ARREST
C12-109044
On June 8, 2012, at approximately 11:30 p.m., District 2 uniform patrol members were conducting a traffic stop in the area of Portage Avenue and Ferry Road. While executing the traffic stop, officers observed a red Mitsubishi Lancer travelling westbound on Portage Avenue at a high rate of speed.
 
With one officer outside the cruiser car, the suspect vehicle, still travelling at a speed excessive 100 kph, narrowly missed striking both the police cruiser car and the vehicle previously stopped.
 
Additional police units were advised at which time officers located the suspect vehicle near Portage Avenue and Moray Street. A traffic stop was attempted, however the vehicle continued to disregard police and put members of the public at risk.
 
Due to the investigative efforts by involved members, the suspect vehicle was located parked at a residence in the Charleswood area of the city.
 
Vlado BEJATOVIC, 20 years of age has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
 
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle x 2
  • Flight from Police Officer
  • HTA – Drive without Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance
He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING A PEDESTRIAN C12-108610
On June 8, 2012, at approximately 2:45 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a serious collision involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Des Meurons Street and Marion Street.
 
As a result of the collision, the roadway was closed to traffic and the 64 year old male pedestrian sustained serious injuries. He remains in critical condition.
 
The investigation has revealed that the pedestrian was attempting to cross Marion Street in a northbound direction when he was struck by a vehicle turning eastbound. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as a 74 year old female.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.
