Sexual Assault Arrest – C14-217858
On October 11, 2014 the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a sexual assault that had occurred on a transit bus earlier that day.
 
Officers met with a 19-year-old vulnerable person and learned that at approximately 11:00 a.m. she had been seated near the rear of the bus when an unknown male had sat down beside her.  The male then proceeded to sexually assault her and then attempted to take her off the bus.  The accused was confronted by a passenger and subsequently exited the bus.
 
The victim was not physically injured during the incident.
 
Members of the Sex Crimes Unit continued with the investigation and were able to identify a suspect.  On October 16th the suspect was located and arrested without incident in area of Maroons Road and Empress Street.
 
William Perry BUSHIE 46 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Sexual Assault and Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance for his alleged involvement.
 
He was detained in custody.
 
 
Firearm Warrant Arrests – C14-222052
Recently, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Street Crime Unit became involved in an investigation regarding firearms.  As a result, a Firearms Search Warrant was applied for and granted for a residence in the 1st 100 block of Desharnais Street.
 
On October 17, 2014, just prior to the search warrant being executed, the investigation lead to several persons being arrested for both drug and firearms offences.
 
At approximately 1:45 p.m. with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team the warrant was executed.  As a result of the arrests and subsequent search of the residence the following was located and seized:

  • 12 gauge sawed off shotgun loaded with five rounds of ammunition
  • 53 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition, 6 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 2 shotgun shells
  • 91 grams of powdered cocaine with an estimated street value of $9,100.00
  • $3010.00 in Canadian currency
  • Multiple cell phones, money counter

Mohammed Waquas ARAIN 30 years and Jordan Colin CONNOLLY 22 years, both of Winnipeghave been charged with the following offences for their alleged involvement:

  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - COCAINE
  • Possess Proceeds of Crime
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized

Both were detained in custody.
 
Three females, 20, 23 & 44 years of age along with one male, 18 years of age, all of Winnipeg are facing numerous charges for their alleged involvement.
 
All four were released via Promise to Appear.
 
 
Sexual Assault – C14-223633
On October 19, 2014 at approximately 10:30 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched for the report of sexual assault.
 
Officers met with the 20 year old victim who advised that shortly before 9:00 a.m. she had been waiting in the bus shelter at Fort Street and Graham Avenue when an unknown male entered.  The male struck up a conversation and then asked for money.  It was at this point that the suspect inappropriately touched the victim.  The victim immediately left the shelter and boarded a bus.  She was not injured.
 
The suspect is described as: Aboriginal in appearance, 45-50 years of age, 5'9" tall, approximately 320 pounds with short black hair and a mole near his right eye.  He was wearing light coloured blue jeans, brown shirt with the word "QUEENS' in red on the front and brown shoes.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
