Sexual Assault Investigation- C14- 219457
On October 12, 2014, at approximately 10:00 p.m., a 43-year-old female was walking southbound on Ellen Street towards Notre Dame Avenue when she was grabbed by an unknown male armed with a weapon.
 
The suspect male pulled the victim behind a commercial building in the area, where he seriously sexually assaulted her.
 
The suspect is described as: Black male with a dark complexion, approximately 15-18 years of age, 5'3" tall, with a slim build.  He was wearing a sleeveless white hoodie, khaki shorts and blue flip flops.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone who has any information regarding the incident or the suspect is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
Commercial Robbery- Arrests- C14-220095

On October 14th 2014, shortly before 5:50 p.m., five male youths, with their faces concealed and armed with weapons, attended to a convenience store in the area of Aberdeen Avenue and Aikins Street. Four of the suspects entered the store and confronted the 53-year-old male victim, demanding cigarettes and cash. 
 
The suspects were provided with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes, before fleeing the store. Police were notified.
 
Responding uniform members, with the assistance of a canine unit flooded the area, and located the suspects at a residence in the 200 block of Charles Street.
 
The five suspects were taken into custody without incident and members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. A search warrant was obtained and executed resulting in the seizure of weapons, clothing and recovered merchandise.  
 
Four 15-year-old males and a 17-year-old male are facing Robbery, Disguise with intent and Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose charges. 
 
They have been released on a promise to appear to appear in court at a later date.
 
 
Public Advisory - Door-to-Door Canvassing – Transcona Area
Today, Community Support and Uniform members from the East District Station, along with Cadets, will be attending residences in the Transcona area delivering crime prevention pamphlets and information. As part of an ongoing effort to reduce crime in the Transcona neighborhood, this is also an opportunity for area residents to speak directly with officers to share their concerns and help foster community engagement.
 
Recognizing the importance citizens play in combatting crime, this public awareness campaign is aimed at ensuring residents have the information they need to protect themselves from the possibility of being victimized.
