Theft Arrest – C14-226277
Recently, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Division 11 Community Support Unit became aware of the pending release from custody of a male who was previously arrested for numerous break-ins to vehicles which resulted in damages estimated to be in the thousands of dollars.
 
On October 21, 2014 the male was released from custody and placed on Probation in regards to theft & mischief charges stemming from an incident that occurred in April of this year.
 
On October 22nd Community Support Unit members were in the 200 block of Garry Street, an area known for numerous vehicle break-ins.  At approximately 8:00 p.m., after hearing the sounds of breaking glass, officers observed the male breaking into a vehicle and stealing property from within.  After a brief foot pursuit officers were able to arrest the male without incident.  Further investigation revealed two other vehicles in the area had been broken into.
 
Lawrence Matthew MCPHERSON, 37 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Mischief Under $5,000.00 x 3, Theft Under $5,000.00 x 2 and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
 
He was remanded into custody.
 
 
Fire Investigation Update – Arrest - C14-221287
As previously released, on October 16, 2014 at approximately 9:10 a.m. emergency services responders were dispatched to a high school in the 800 block of Concordia Avenue for a report of a fire that was discovered in a second floor washroom.
 
Students and staff members were evacuated from the school and there were no reported injuries.
 
Upon arrival, members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained inside the washroom area.
 
Damage estimates were valued at approximately $500,000 as a result of the extensive smoke damage to the school and contents. 
 
The investigation continued by members of the Arson Unit who were able to identify a suspect.
 
On the morning of October 23rd investigators located and arrested the suspect without incident.
 
A 16-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing charges of Arson with Disregard for Human Life and Arson Causing Damage to Property for his alleged involvement.
 
He was released via a Promise to Appear.
