HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION   C14-14146
On January 19, 2014 at 3:00 p.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to a residence located in the 200 block of Andrews Street regarding an injured male.
 
Officers located Justin DESMARAIS, a 24 years-old male, deceased within the home. The cause of death is unconfirmed at this time however, an autopsy is pending.
 
At this early stage of the investigation, it is believed that the deceased was involved in an altercation within the residence.
 
Homicide investigators continue to interview witnesses.

2006 HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION – ARREST   R10-85439
On or about October 4, 2006, two males were outside a residence located in the 500 block of Magnus Avenue.
 
At the time, 29 year-old Steven PELLETIER was lured and eventually forced into a home where he was seriously assaulted by the other male. The assault continued at which time the male suspect produced a firearm and discharged it in the direction of PELLETIER. The victim died as a result of the injuries sustained.
 
The suspect, with the assistance of his associates removed the deceased from the home, taking him to a secluded area outside the City of Winnipeg.
 
In November, 2006, the victim's family filed a missing persons report to police. An extensive investigation commenced which included a news release requesting the public's assistance.
 
As a result of a lengthy investigation by members of the Homicide Unit, with the assistance of the Missing Persons Unit, a suspect was identified and charges were authorized.
 
Darrel LAVALLEE, 32 years-old has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder due to his alleged involvement. He was arrested on January 17, 2014 while incarcerated at the Stony Mountain Institution.
 
After being processed, he was returned to the Institution.
 
The investigation is continuing and further interviews are pending.
