MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING A TRAIN – ARREST   C13-210023
On October 12, 2013 at approximately 9:50 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service and other emergency personnel responded to a collision involving a train in the area of Archibald Street and Fermor Avenue.
 
It has been determined that the driver of a Mazda 3 had been travelling westbound on Fermor Avenue between Lakewood Boulevard and Archibald Street when he encountered signal lights and warning bells activated at a railway crossing.
 
For unknown reasons, the driver ignored the signals and proceeded in attempt to beat the train. As a result, the Mazda 3 struck the second engine of the train causing significant damage. Despite the potential of this collision, no one was injured.
 
Adam NORTON, 29 years-oldhas been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
 
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking
(HTA) Drive while Disqualified
(HTA) Fail to Stop at a Railway Crossing at which a Traffic Control Device is Signalling the Proximity or Passing of a Train
 
He was detained.
 
 
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – ARREST   C13-210169
On October 13, 2013 at approximately 12:50 a.m., officers and other emergency personnel responded to the area of the 600 block of Archibald Street to check on the well-being of individuals in the area, possibly involved in a motor vehicle collision.
 
The investigation has revealed that a male attended to a nearby business and had been socializing with friends. The male was eventually kicked out of the establishment due to his disruptive behaviour.
 
It was at this time the male entered a grey Chevrolet Impala which was parked in front of the business facing southbound. The male collided with a cab in front of him multiple times before fleeing. The male in the Impala returned striking the cab again which in turn made contact with the cab driver standing nearby. The driver of the Impala drove off again, only to return, now driving on the sidewalk in a southbound direction. Three more pedestrians were struck when the Impala came to a stop.   
 
The male driver then exited the Impala and attempted to flee. Several onlookers pursued the male. He was arrested and taken into police custody.
 
Members of the Central Traffic Unit were notified and continued with the investigation.
 
The pedestrians struck are in stable condition.
 
The 23 year-old male driver of the Impala is facing numerous charges in relation to his manner of driving and his alleged impairment.  
 
The male remains in police custody at this time. The investigation is on-going.
