ATTEMPT MURDER ARREST C13-138991
On Sunday, July 14, 2013 at approximately 3:30 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service along with other emergency personnel were dispatched to the 300 block of Young Street for the report of stabbing.
Attending members located a 24 year old female suffering from stab wounds to the upper body. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable. A second female was found to have been physically assaulted. Medical attention was not required.
The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit. It was learned that the accused and the two victims had been socializing when an argument between the two victims and the accused occurred. The situation escalated to the point where the accused produced a knife and stabbed the victim after which he fled the scene.
On Monday, July 15, 2013 the accused was located and arrested.
Manuel Joseph CRAVEIRO 24 years of Winnipeg has been charged with:
- Attempted Murder x 2
- Assault
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
GUNSHOT WOUND C13-140390
On Tuesday, July 16, 2013 shortly after 3:00 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 400 block of Bannerman Avenue for the report of a male suffering from a gunshot wound.
Responding members located an adult male suffering from upper body wounds consistent with having been the result of a firearm discharge. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to stable.
The investigation is in its early stages and is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter or the identity of the suspect(s) is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY ARREST C13-131630
As previously released, on Thursday, July 4, 2013 shortly after 9:00 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service members were dispatched to a gas bar in the 600 block of Notre Dame Avenue for the report of a commercial robbery.
Attending officers met with the 25 year old attendant who advised that he had been working behind the counter when a male had entered the store, demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash after which he fled the store.
The attendant was not injured.
The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit and as a result a suspect was identified.
On July 14 members of the Auxiliary Cadets were in the area of Logan Avenue and Princess Street where they observed the suspect. With the assistance of the Community Support Unit the accused was arrested without incident.
Benjamin John LEASK 31 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Robbery. He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
SUSPICIOUS PERSON C13-140140
On Monday, July 15, 2013 shortly before 9:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched for the report of a suspicious person.
Officers met with a nine year old female who advised that at approximately 8:45 pm. she and two friends had been walking in the 1200 block of Beaumont Street. Her friends were a short distance away when a vehicle pulled up beside her, the passenger door opened and the passenger said "Come on, get in." The driver then said "Yeah get in." A third passenger in the rear did not say anything.
The female ran to her friends and all three fled to one of their homes and told a parent who in turn contacted police.
The vehicle is described as a black truck, three windows in rear (sliding window), and possibly two door.
The occupants are all described as being possibly Caucasian, medium build, short brown hair in their late teens or early twenties.
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 2 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identity of the suspect(s) is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-2877 or CrimeStoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
