FIREARM DISCHARGE – ARREST C13-138298
On July 13, 2013, at approximately 5:50 a.m., Uniform Patrol and members of the Canine Unit responded to the 600 block of Manitoba Avenue regarding the report of shot(s) being fired.
 
Attending members confirmed that a firearm discharge took place, however no injuries were reported.
 
The investigation has determined that two males had become involved in a dispute earlier, after which time the males went their separate ways. One of the males returned to the area in possession of a shotgun. The armed male confronted the same male he was previously arguing with, including two others.
 
It was at this time a firearm discharge took place, striking a garage in the area. The three male victims fled uninjured.
 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit, with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Unit continued to investigate.
 
The suspect was identified and arrested.
 
A 15 year old male has been charged with: Discharge Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life X 3, Assault with a Weapon X 3 and Failure to Comply with Sentence.
 
He was detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
 
 
ASSAULT PEACE OFFICER – ARREST C13-138259
On July 13, 2013, at approximately 4:15 a.m., East District Patrol members were conducting a traffic stop in the area of Beaverhill Boulevard and Edgewater Drive when they observed a black SUV travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver of the SUV was observed to accelerate toward one of the officers standing on the roadway. The officer was forced to jump out of the way in order to avoid being struck.
 
The SUV continued to be operated at a high rate of speed have no regard for public safety.
 
Officers effectively stopped the SUV in the area of Lonergan Place and removed two occupants.
 
The driver became combative with officers and attempted to assault them.
 
It was at this time officers formed the opinion that the driver of the SUV was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested.
 
While in custody, the driver continued to be aggressive and fight with officers.
 
Kyle Randolph KLYM, 24 years-old has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:
 
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Impaired Driving
Failure to Provide a Breath Sample
Assault a Peace Officer X 2
Assault with a Weapon
Obstruct/Resist Peace Officer
 
He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION C13-138493
On July 13, 2013, at approximately 2:30 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of Columbia Drive and Marygrove Crescent regarding a serious collision involving a motorcycle.
 
Members of the Central Traffic Unit Collision Investigation Section were dispatched.
 
At this time, it has been determined that the driver of the motorcycle was travelling southbound on Columbia Drive at a high rate of speed when he lost control. The driver was ejected from the bike striking a tree on the west-side boulevard.
 
Bystanders immediately attended to the victim offering assistance. 
 
A 43 year-old male was transported from the scene and later pronounced deceased. His name will not be released.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – C13-138351
On July 13, 2013, at approximately 8:50 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a business located in the 1600 block of King Edward Street regarding a robbery incident.
 
A male suspect entered the business and threatened to harm a 29 year old female employee with a weapon. An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen, no one was injured.
 
The suspect is described as: Caucasian, 26-27 years-old, approximately 5'8-5'10" in height, average build and short blonde hair.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
