FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION ARREST

As previously reported, on Friday, February 15, 2013 at approximately 6:00 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the intersection of Isabel Street and Notre Dame Avenue for the report of a serious motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles.
Responding officers located a 53 year old female pedestrian who had been struck by one of the vehicles. The victim was transported to hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation continued by members of the Central Traffic Unit.
Investigation revealed that a 2004 Chevrolet Impala with 6 occupants travelling northbound on Isabel Street at a high rate of speed ran a red light and struck a 2011 Honda CRV which had been travelling westbound on Notre Dame Avenue. Due to the force of the collision the CRV was forced up onto the west sidewalk of Isabel Street where it struck the pedestrian.
The driver of the CRV and three of the occupants within the Impala were injured and transported to hospital in stable condition.
The driver of the Impala uninjured and without apparent concern for others involved in the collision, fled the scene.
On Sunday, February 17, 2013 at approximately 12:00 p.m. investigators located the accused at a residence in the north-west part of the city. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident.
Dakota Dennis SMOKE 18 years of Winnipeg has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre and is facing charges of:
- Drive Dangerously Cause Death
- Drive Dangerously Cause Bodily Harm x 4
- Drive Impaired Cause Death
- Drive Impaired Cause Bodily Harm x 4
- Fail to Stop At Scene of Accident (CCC)
- HTA Novice Driver, Drive without Supervising Driver
- Breach of Probation Keep Peace/ Good Behaviour
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C13-032398
On Sunday, February 17, 2013 at approximately 3:00 a.m. officers responded to a convenience store in the 1100 block of St Mary's Road for the report of a commercial robbery.
Attending officers met with the two male employees working at the time of the incident. It was learned that two unknown males, both armed with a weapon and concealing their identities entered the store, demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cigarettes and merchandise.
Neither employee was injured.
No description of the suspects is available.

RESIDENTIAL FIRE C13-032900
On Sunday, February 17, 2013 at approximately 11:30 p.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 700 block of Municipal Road for the report of a working fire.
The fire appears to be accidental and there were no injuries.
Damage is estimated at $40,000.00.
