Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  

Monday, February 23rd, 2012
11:30 a.m.  
 
 
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION- UPDATE           C12-26194
As previously released, on February 12th, 2012, at approximately 4:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the area of Simcoe Street and Wellington Avenue regarding reports of an injured male.
 
Responding members, including other emergency personal located an adult male outside in the 600 block of Simcoe Street. He was transported to hospital in critical condition where he was later pronounced deceased. The victim has been identified as Walter MADONICK, 55 years of Winnipeg. 
 
The investigation has revealed that the victim had attended a social function with friends and had been dropped off in the area of Wellington Avenue and Simcoe Street at approximately 2:00 a.m. The victim was last seen walking alone southbound on Simcoe Street. 
 
It appears that the victim was confronted by a suspect(s) in the area of the 600 block of Simcoe Street and shot.  The motive has not yet been determined and the investigation is on-going.     
 
Investigators are requesting anyone with information regarding this matter to contact the Homicide Unit at 986-6508 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
SUSPICIOUS PERSON AND VEHICLE           R12-18821
On February 22nd, 2012 at approximately 2:00 p.m. a 17 year old female was walking in the area of Main Street and Mountain Avenue when a car pulled up beside her.  The male driver engaged her in a conversation and then grabbed her by the arm. This male attempted to pull the female towards the vehicle however the female broke free and fled the area. Police were notified.
 
The female was not injured.  
 
The suspect is described as; Male, Caucasian, approximately 40 years of age, heavy build with blond curly hair and a reddish face. He was wearing a green jacket.
 
The vehicle is described as a silver 4 door car, similar to a Chevrolet Impala.
 
Anyone who has any information about this incident is asked to contact investigators with the Division 13 Crime Unit at 986-2848 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
FRAUD INVESTIGATION- UPDATE ARRESTS    R11-125579
As previously released, Winnipeg Police Service Division 13 Crime Unit members entered into an investigation regarding stolen Winnipeg Jets hockey tickets that were being sold to unsuspecting individuals throughout the City of Winnipeg.  
 
On December 28th, 2011 a 21 year old male turned himself into the Division 13 police station. He was released on a promise to appear for four counts of fraud under $5000 and possession of goods obtained by crime.
 
As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Division 13 Crime Unit two suspect males were identified. On February 7th, 2012, a 19 year old male was arrested and will be facing two counts of Fraud Under $5000. He was released on a promise to appear.   
 
Then on February 22nd, 2012 a 21 year old male was located at a residence within the 400 block of Young Street and taken into custody without incident.
 
Gerren Jeffrey MCKAY, 21 years of no fixed address has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement in this incident:
 
-       Fraud x 11
-       Possess goods obtained by crime x 2
-        
MCKAY has been detained in custody. 
 
Through the course of this investigation it has been determined that six separate victims had paid a total of $4,240 for the stolen tickets.  
 
The Winnipeg Police Service continues to recommend that individuals looking to purchase hockey tickets only do so from persons to known to them or through an appropriate ticket exchange venue. 
 
HOMICIDE- OUTSTANDING MALE                 C12-27221
As previously released, on February 14th, 2012, at approximately 1:40 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members were dispatched to the 1400 block of St. Matthews Avenue regarding an assault incident. 
 
Upon arrival, officers located two injured adult males. A 20 year old male was transported to the hospital in stable condition suffering from injuries to his upper body. An 18 year old male was transported to the hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries. 
 
The victim has been identified as Wahbishkanacot MANDAMIN, 18 years.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service is continuing their efforts to locate a male wanted in connection with this incident. A warrant for Manslaughter remains outstanding for Raymond Gerald BAKER, 19 years.
 
 
 
 
BAKER is described as: Aboriginal, 5'11" tall, fair complexion, brown hair and eyes, thin build and possible goatee.
 
Anyone with information regarding BAKER's whereabouts is asked to contact police immediately or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
