STRONG-ARM ROBBERY INVESTIGATION C12-23298
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Division 11 Crime Unit are currently investigating several strong- arm robberies where victims have been confronted and robbed of their personal property.
 
Officers have been made aware of several instances where victims have been approached by more than one suspect, assaulted and robbed of items such as clothing and or electronic devices.
 
At this stage of the investigation, it appears that some of these incidents may have occurred, but is not limited to, the downtown and St. Vital areas of the city.
 
It is believed that several recent strong-arm robberies have gone unreported to police. In order to assist in the ongoing investigation, officers are requesting anyone who may have been victimized in this manner to call 986-6668 to make a report.  
 
 
HIGH RISK SEX OFFENDER –ARREST R12-14515
On February 8, 2012, the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit released a Community Notification regarding Winston George THOMAS, 34 years, a convicted sex offender.
 
Information was provided that THOMAS was being released back into the community.
 
On February 8, 2012, at approximately 9:15 p.m., members of the MIHRSOU were notified that THOMAS was in the area of the 100 block of Henry Avenue in an intoxicated state and in breach of his release conditions.
 
Members attended and THOMAS was placed under arrest. He has been charged with: Breach of Probation and detained.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – ARREST C12-24155
On February 8, 2012, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Uniform Patrol members responded to the 500 block of William Avenue regarding a commercial robbery.
 
The investigation has revealed that a lone male entered the business while armed with a knife and confronted a 33 year old female employee. While concealing his identity, the suspect proceeded behind the counter and demanded cigarettes and cash. He obtained an undisclosed amount and fled the store.
 
At approximately 10:15 p.m., initial investigating members located the suspect in the area and placed him under arrest. A recovery of the stolen property and weapon believed to have been used has since been recovered.  
 
The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
 
Aubrey Leonard THOMAS, 19 years has been charged with:
 
·        Robbery with a Weapon
·        Disguise with Intent
 
He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C12-24308
On February 9, 2012, at approximately 6:10 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service members responded to a business located in the 2800 block of Pembina Highway regarding a commercial robbery incident.
 
A lone male suspect armed with a handgun entered the business and confronted a 44 year old female employee.  Money was demanded and an undisclosed amount was obtained.
 
The suspect fled the area on foot. No one was injured as a result of the incident.
 
The suspect is described as:
 
·        Male
·        Caucasian
·        5'7" tall
·        Reddish/brown beard
·        Brown hair
·        In possession of a handgun
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
