Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

11:00 a.m.
 
 
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION - ARREST          C12-31371
As previously released, on February 20th, 2012, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received information regarding suspicious circumstances in the area of the 100 block of Donald Street.
 
Officers attended and located evidence to support that a homicide had occurred.
 
As a result of the continued investigation police attended to a residence within the 200 block of Thomas Berry Street where an adult male was taken into custody without incident. 
 
The victim has been identified as Darren Robert MONIAS, 42 years of Winnipeg.  
 
Emery Miles MCLEOD, 38 years of Winnipeg has been charged with one count of second degree murder for his alleged involvement in this incident. 
 
MCLEOD has been detained in custody at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
This investigation is continuing. 
 
 
ASSAULT PEACE OFFICER                          C12-32291
On February 21st, 2012 at approximately 10:35 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 11 members were called to shopping mall within the 300 block of Portage Avenue for a report of stabbing that had just occurred. 
 
Upon arrival officers learned that the 24 year old male victim had been working as a security guard at the mall when he encountered a male loitering in a nearby bus shack.  This male was asked to leave the premise and instead refused and became confrontational. The male then attempted to assault the victim at which time the victim grabbed a hold of the suspect to restrain him.  A knife was produced by the suspect and the victim was stabbed in the upper body. 
 
The suspect fled the area and police were notified.
 
Paramedics attended and transported the victim to the hospital in stable condition.  
 
The suspect is described as;
 
-Male, Caucasian, approximately 16 to 18 years of age, 5'5" tall, wearing dark blue jeans and black shoes.
