Thursday, February 2, 2012 DOWNTOWN FOOT PATROL BEGINS OPERATIONS As part of the Winnipeg Police Service's Downtown Safety Strategy, we have committed to creating a dedicated downtown foot patrol. On Sunday, January 29, 2012, the Winnipeg Police Service Downtown Foot Patrol Unit became operational. The Unit consists of eight police members who will work days and evenings, seven days per week and be assigned to specific beats throughout Winnipeg's downtown. The introduction of this Unit will not replace the ongoing operations of our Division 11 Uniform Patrol and Community Support Unit operations. Members will be tasked with enhancing community relationships, enhancing public safety and crime prevention efforts downtown. The Unit's goal is to create a safer community for those who live, work and visit Winnipeg's downtown.
