SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE AND OCCUPANT C12-30209
On February 18, 2012 at approximately 3:15 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Kimberly Avenue and Gateway Road regarding a suspicious person incident.
 
Officers attended and met with a 15 year old female victim, in company of family members.
 
The victim related that she had been walking alone in a westbound direction in the area of the 900 block of Concordia Avenue when a passing vehicle honked at her. The victim ignored the honking and continued to walk westbound. The vehicle was observed to turn around and began following the victim. It was at this time an unidentified male rolled down his car window and slowed the vehicle down, keeping pace with the victim. The male asked if she needed a ride and proceeded to open the passenger side door. The male asked for her name, however the victim ignored the male and continued walking.
 
The female eventually made her way to a nearby business where police were summoned.
 
The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.
 
The suspect is described as:
 
·        Male, in his 50's
·        Black
·        Chubby build
·        Black hair
·        Prescription glasses, with square frame
·        Deep voice with accent
·        Straight, white teeth
 
The suspect vehicle is described as:
 
·        Black
·        Four door
·        Silver trim on windows (larger windows)
·        Dark interior seats (possibly leather)
·        Rounded front end
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the East District Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 986-2857 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
  
ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON – ARREST C12-30419
On February 18, 2012, at approximately 9:50 p.m., general patrol members responded to a stabbing incident in the area of the 100 block of Aikins Street.
 
The investigation has revealed that a male suspect was walking in the area when he became involved in a verbal dispute with a group of individuals, including a 43 year old male victim. The dispute escalated to a physical confrontation between the suspect and victim. It was at this time the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim to the upper body after which time he fled the area on foot.   
 
Numerous police resources, including members of the Flight Operations Unit (Air1) attended to the area. It was at this time Air1 advised patrolling members that a suspect had been located in the area of the 300 block of Flora Avenue and directed to attend.
 
As a result of coordinated efforts, the suspect was taken into custody and arrested.
 
The victim was treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries. 
 
A 19 year old male is facing the following offences:
 
·        Assault with a Weapon
·        Breach of Probation
·        Fail to Comply with Condition Undertaking
 
He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.  
 
 
DRUG - ARRESTS C12-30519
On February 18, 2012, at approximately 11:45 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service initiated a traffic stop in the area of Talbot Avenue and Gateway Road as a result of a driving infraction.
 
The vehicle was stopped in the area of the 400 block Talbot Avenue when officers made contact with three occupants in a black, Monte Carlo. As officers investigated, attempting to positively identify two male passengers and a female driver, the vehicle and occupants fled from the traffic stop in a westbound direction, resulting in a brief pursuit.
 
The suspect vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed having no regard for public safety. As a result, the suspect vehicle struck an uninvolved vehicle (van), including two parked cars near the intersection of Talbot Avenue and Brazier Street. There were no injuries as a result of the collisions.
 
Additional units arrived on scene and all three occupants of the suspect vehicle were taken into custody.
 
Located within the suspect vehicle was a quantity of cocaine and open liquor.
 
A 45 year old male, 38 year old male and 23 year old female are facing numerous charges in relation to the incident.
 
·        Flight from Police Officer
·        Possessing Controlled Drug or Substance (Cocaine)
·        Public Mischief
·        Personation with Intent
·        Dangerous Operation - Motor Vehicle
·        Including Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Control Act offences
 
The 38 year old male was detained and the two other accused were released on a Promise to Appear.  
 
 
STABBING INVESTIGATION – ARREST C12-30657
On February 19, 2012, at approximately 3:30 a.m., uniform patrol members responded to a stabbing/ attempt robbery incident in the area of Higgins Avenue and Sutherland Avenue.
 
At this stage if the investigation, investigators have determined that three adult victims (1 male & 2 female) were walking home when they were confronted by two male suspects.
 
A physical confrontation occurred which resulted in two of the victims being stabbed and one physically assaulted. The suspects attempted to rob the victims of a quantity of liquor.
 
The victims have been medically treated and are listed in stable condition.
 
Attending members took custody of a 20 year old male suspect; however the second suspect fled the area on foot.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is requested to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
