SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES C12-36028
On February 27, 2012, at approximately 9:45 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service received information from British Columbia RCMP regarding a 33 year old female in custody at the Vancouver Airport.

It was discovered that the female was intending to travel to Winnipeg to meet a male she had met online for the first time. After further discussions with the female, officials learned that the male and female had agreed to meet in person for the purpose of mutually harming themselves.

Officers were advised that the male was waiting for her to arrive, in a vehicle which contained a quantity of hazardous chemicals, outside the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport.

Numerous police resources were dispatched to the area of the 1900 block of Wellington Avenue at which time the suspect vehicle containing a lone male occupant was located. At approximately 11:00 p.m., officers safely conducted a traffic stop and took the male into custody without incident.

A quantity of liquid chemicals were located in sealed containers and subsequently deemed safe by members of the Winnipeg Fire Department (HAZMAT).

The investigation has revealed that there was no intention to harm anyone else.

Due to co-ordinated efforts by the RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service, the male and female were safely taken in custody and provided with the necessary support.

No charges are pending at this time.
