On August 9, 2014 shortly before 7:30 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of Stapon Road & Regent Avenue West for the report of a motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist.

An adult male was located and transported to hospital in unstable condition.  He later succumbed to his injuries.

Initial investigation has revealed that the cyclist was travelling south across Regent Avenue in the pedestrian corridor, against the red light, when he was struck by a vehicle travelling east in the curb lane.

The driver of the vehicle, an adult female, has been interviewed.  Neither speed nor alcohol is being considered as factors in this collision.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.  Anyone with information regarding this matter, who has not yet spoken with police, is asked to contact police.  In particular, investigators are hoping to speak with the male driver of a Chevrolet Camaro, which was stopped at the intersection at the time of the collision, who may have witnessed the incident.  They may be reached at (204) 986-6271.
