Update - Homicide Investigation Arrest C14-178950
As previously released - On August 23, 2014 at approximately 1:40 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Cumberland Avenue and Spence Street regarding an unconscious male located.
 
Attending members received information from a passer-by who came across the injured adult male. The male was transported to hospital and later pronounced deceased. 
 
Members of the Homicide Unit with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Section and Uniform Patrol continued to investigate.
 
The investigation has now revealed that the deceased identified as Helder SERPA, 57 years-old of Winnipeg was walking to his residence when he was confronted by an unknown male. An altercation took place at which time the victim was stabbed multiple times in the upper body.
 
Officers located the male suspect in the same area, at which time he was taken into custody.
 
Matthew James SELLNER, 35 years-old of Winnipeg has been charged with Second Degree Murder due to his alleged involvement.
 
He remains in custody.
