Homicide Update - Second Arrest C14- 157467
As previously released - On July 26, 2014 at approximately 5:40 a.m., emergency services personnel responded to a report of a fire alarm at an apartment building within the 100 block of Hargrave Street.

Upon arrival, fire fighters quickly extinguished a small fire within a suite and located a male with injuries to his upper body. The adult male victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.  The victim has been identified as Arthur HAUSSERMANN, 53 years of Winnipeg.
 
The fire which was contained to the victim's suite caused approximately $10,000.00 in damage.
 
On July 29, 2014, shortly after 4:00 p.m., officers arrested afemale wanted in connection with this incident in the area of Maryland Street and Broadway.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
 
As a result of her alleged involvement, Clarissa Dawn PONACE, 29 years of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Arson Disregard for Human Life
  • Fail to Comply Recognizance X 4 and Fail to Comply with Probation X 2

PONACE was detained.
 
On July 29, 2014, members of the Regina Police Service located and arrested a second female on the strength of a Canada Wide Warrant.
 
Raven Desjarlais, 27 years was returned to Winnipeg on August 1, 2014 by members of the Homicide Unit and charged with the following due to her alleged involvement:  

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Arson Disregard for Human Life
  • Warrant – unrelated robbery incident

She remains in custody.
 
 
Sexual Assault – C14-161954
On August 1, 2014 during the early morning hours, a 35 year-old female including several other people were socializing on the south side riverbank of the Assiniboine River, west of the Donald Street Bridge.
 
At some point the group dispersed and the 35 year-old female attended to a wooded area when she was confronted by an unknown male. The victim was incapacitated at which time she lost consciousness. A serious sexual assault occurred.
 
The victim fought back when her cries for help were heard and police were notified. The suspect fled and no arrest has been made at this time. 
 
The suspect is described as: Male, Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 35 years-old, 170 lbs., short/black unkempt hair, pocked marked face, slight moustache, wearing dark clothing and white runners.  
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone with further information is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
Commercial robbery arrest – C14-161937
On August 1, 2014 at approximately 3:00 a.m., a male suspect attended to a convenience store located in the 100 block of Keewatin Street.
 
The male remained in the business for a period of time while waiting for other customers to leave. The suspect was observed to be in possession of a knife and the business was robbed of cash and merchandise. Police were notified.
 
Upon arrival, the suspect was seen fleeing which resulted in a brief foot pursuit by Patrol members. The suspect was apprehended and found to be in possession of a knife, including cash and stolen goods.
 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued the investigation.
 
Peter Andrew KENNEDY, 20 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following due to his alleged involvement:
 
Robbery
Possession of a weapon
Fail to comply with condition of a recognizance
 
He remains in custody.
